i dout that if they merge that they would abandon the ram... or Dakota... it would be like any other branch of Gm it would just have its own section... i like GM they are pretty good vehicles and i dont see a problem as long as they dont change chysler i would be pretty happen with that.......
1. GM would recieve goverment assistance to liquidate most of dodge.
2. GM would leave only the Jeep and one other model, while the Jeep would be rebranded as another hummer model.
3. GM would either trash the cummins, or allow it as another option on the larger trucks.
4. Mopar, Dodge, Chrysler, all gone.
If this would happen, then I would NEVER buy a dodge vehicle again. I mean come on, we are talking about engineers that on the first gen duramaxes didn't thik that even though diesel burned hotter than the melting point of the alloy they made the heads out of the heads would not melt, UH DUH! These are the same people that consistently put incorrectly sized pistons in engines for years, and and ignore it. Hell I can remember working on the older chevy engines, and the iron had bubbles in it. PITS like perferation, you could take off a head and see them.
I can see it now, in 20 years dodge rams if they are even called that will have engines that burn oil like a mother, smoke like hell and have a ****ton of piston slap all at 80,000 miles.
The last thing that comes to mind is OEM equipment. Will all mopar replacement parts be lowered to GM standards?
Why!? This is one of the stupidest things that dodge can do. Oh well we shall see if dodge's new owner knows what the hell he is doing.

Yes ford has their problems, mainly that they need a good place to buy quality engines from.
But dodge has its problems too, transmissions. Lord forgive me for saying it, but a torqueshift auto behind a cummins wouldnt be that bad.

is that the GM-Chrysler merger is inevitable
this NYT article seems to say that Cerberus has convinced the Bush administration to give them the $ billions quickly
I am still of the opinion that merging GM and Chrysler will hurt both companies,
not create a healthier one
Japan is a smaller country than the USA
but look how many separate auto companies are surviving there

Back in the day, you had 3 or 4 different models per brand.....now you have 10 per brand.....
The reality? The current market has become bloated with entirely TOO many cars. Every company has cars that are exact duplicates of each other, minus the bumpers and lights, and a few minor changes....
What would indeed be a great thing for the auto industry right now is if several companies folded or shut down. This would force more diversity into the lineups, as well as forcing these companies to re-focus their attention on what people want....rather then just pumping out cookie cutter cars.
Am I saying it would be a good thing that GM buys Chrysler? Not at all, just saying that in the end, this country has lived high on the hog for too long and not had to pay the piper.....I'd rather see fat trimming then wholesale shutdowns.
And GM would not ditch the Cummins....that would be absolute DUMBEST thing they could do.
Isuzu builds damned good diesel engines. My brother has a ¾-ton 1st Gen Duramax 4-door truck that hauls 9,000lbs like nothing.
