46re converter locking up in drive and reverse sometimes
ok i have did alot of reading about this problem.. and not sure whats up. its a 96 ram 2500 all stock, no mods. most of the time the tranny works great shifting od ect... then out of the blue it will want to die coming to a stop, i give it a little throttle then it is fine,,,,may not have any issues for awhile. sometimes at startup it will die when put into drive or rev, again i ride the brake to keep it from dying then its fine again...is there a way to tell if its the converter going bad? here what i have tried, when its acting up going to drive and reverse, i have pulled the trans relay i can here the relay click when i take it out and in...but no help any advice would be great thanks. update its a 47re not a 46re...

Ok.
Then 47RE most likely. (slightly beefier version of the 46, and bellhousing is different bolt pattern.)
Could try replacing the TCC solenoid..... fun to get to though. When is the last time fluid/filter were changed? Bands adjusted?

i was told the 96 was the first year for the 46re and 95 was the last year for the 46rh but i dont know...it is the 47re...if i change the tcc solenoid what else should i look at in the valve body, was told that there is a valve in the valve body that can be bad and let fluid bypass and lockup the converter

its a 47re sry, when i change the tcc solenoid is there anything to look at as far as the valve body. was told there is a valve in the valve body that will let fluid leak pass and lock up the converter

If you are having any other shifting issues, I would be real tempted to replace ALL the electronics in the trans, adjust the bands, and change the filter since you are going to be in there anyway. Drain plug may not be a bad plan either.
Take a look at what's in the bottom of the pan. Condition of the fluid, etc. Tells a lot about the condition of your trans.

so i took the trans pan off, didnt find anything no metal or anything but the magnet had about a 1/16 of sludge looked like anti seize or grease like...no clue
