Warranty / Exhaust
Borla rocks, but I'm a bit concerned with price. I get the feeling I've gained some ponies in my home made version and it only cost me $325 (they came down on their price). How much would the Borla system cost me (full retail is fine)? What would the Borla system offer over my factory system modified the way I've listed above?
Thanks for any info! Oh, and welcome aboard! It's cool having you posting here.

The increase in HP and torque does look good....but only 1.5dB?
That much of a sound increase does not sound like much considering
how quiet the car is now. Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking to
set off car alarms...lol
Dave....thanks for info!!

I may be the only person here that does NOT have a hemi, but I'm putting duals on my 3.5L. I have already replaced the stock muffler and resonator with a Flowmaster 40, and the resonator is GONE! There is a definite increase in low end torque and quicker rev up to the computer controlled shift point (6400rpm). Haven't timed it yet but it is quicker for sure. Duals will be completed tomorrow 'cause we had to wait for the heat blanket to come in to insulate the other side of the gas tank. They only wrap the driver side part of the tank on the SE and SXT since it IS only single exhaust. I am going with an after market insulater rated for 1000 deg instead of the factory wrap since the one from Dodge is $185.00 and the after market, higher degree rated, and lighter, is only $40.00. Once complete, the whole cost will be $285.00!! Great deal in my opinion. I'll post pics and try to post an audio bite once completed.
MagnaFlow has a cool vid at http://www.magnaflow.com/04sound/domestic.htm of an R/T rev, launch and drive by. Sounds good.
They said the product for the hemi would be available in 4 to 6 weeks

Borla makes good products, I had Borla headers on my 96' Impala SS. Besides being costly, only a 1.5 increase in DB? The increase in HP and Torque is good.
If I change my exhaust, I want some good sounds, right?
I had Flowmasters on my Crown Vic LX Sport and it sounded good, like the Mercury Marauder.
Flowmasters are a good bargain for the price.

i know borla is a trusted name in exhaust systems. i was wondering, did u test the effects of a larger diameter piping? and could u tell me what kind of results u achieved?
also,
can somebody comment on this set up?
i wanted to go at least 1/4-1/2" diameter over stock from cat back.
replace the suitcase muffler with glasspacks/magnapacks or some kind of resonator.
and finally replace the final 2 mufflers with whichever magnaflow muffler will fit.
from what i've experienced, magnaflows are a bit quieter and more toned down than flowmasters.
1st goal is to increase performance.
2nd is to minimize the drone because i feel this car is sporty yet very luxurious (plus a lil bit of girlfriend factor).
3rd make my r/t sound mean yet clean.

Well the duals are now on my 3.5L and all I can say is -- unbelievable. Power is dramatically increased and it sounds more like a small block V8 instead of a V6. Low in torque is slightly better but much quicker rev and torque in the mid powerband is now much better. This thing is now LOUD and throaty, especially for a 6. I'll post a sound bite as soon as I can get one shot but it does sound good. Check out the pics of the possibly only V6 Magnum with duals.

OK, here's a very low res .mpg so you can hear what the 3.5L sounds like with dual Flowmasters, no crossover pipe either, just straight duals.

Well I did it, I had Flowmasters put on my Magnum RT. I had intended to also remove the stock resonators as well, but the shop talked me out of it. They have done a few trucks with the Hemi and they said it turned out LOUD! My results were okay, a little louder than stock, but not as loud as I wanted them. I have had Flowmasters on my Impala and Crown Vic and they sounded great.
I will drive it for a short time and see if I want to make changes. I may remove the stock resonators and replace them with a straight through design, that should give me more sound and won't be too loud. That or wait for Flowmaster to come out with a cat back system, I really like their American Thunder Series.
Shop charged me $180 for the Flowmasters (40 series) installed. The change over was worth the loss in weight of the stock muffler. It does seem like I have gained more torque at low RPM, at least it seems so. Easier to spin the tires.
