Nav Sysem Upgrade
My RT is on order (BX status on 6/25 order) but I included a NAV system. My current ride is a '98 Lexus GS400 which I bought used with 8K miles and it had a NAV. Having driven this car all over the state of Florida on business for the past 6 years I would not have a daily driver without a NAV. The one in my Lexus has really crude graphics compared to what Chrysler now offers. I haven't seen the full-screen in the Magnum but did play with one in a Pacifica where they put a small screen in the speedo right above the steering column. Anyway, traveling all over the state visiting customers, I've programed into my current NAV over 80 customers. This make for effecient use of my time when I'm on the road. The voice directions I've never used. Waaaay too irritating. I've got a wife for that. Being on a schedule, when traveling the NAV constantly calculates how long it'll take me to get from where I'm at to the destination I plugged in. That, in itself, is worth the price to me. The possibility of modifying it for DVD play is just a bonus which I'll pursue once I have my RT under me.
Having never used a nav system I was worried that it would take a degree to use it. After playing with it some it is very user friendly. On a recent trip from Michigan to visit my parents in Tennessee, I was extremely pleased with the accuracy of the system and it really seemed like you had someone in the car reading directions to you. One of the best " never thought I'd use it " accessories ever !!!
Sorry I have been out of town DavidA. Maddhatter here. Look me up on TBN. Saw where you had purchased an RT over at the other site. Driving the Tbird much now that you have the RT? I haven't taken the cover off mine since the RT arrived. Too hot now anyway.
The Nav system is actually really easy to figure out. Took me a matter of minutes to get step by step directions to a muffler shop 400 miles away (just experimenting) I have also found it to be very accurate except on newer roads or highways that have been recently reconfigured. The DVD does offer one free update DVD within one year of purchase so be sure to send for that. I have been forgetting myself and need to get to that.
Also as previously stated, when the lady starts talking, just use the volume *** on the stereo and turn her off if you don't really want to hear her talk until later in your journey when you don't know where you are going. IF you leave her on, it only takes over the driver side door speaker.
I personally like it and for the $30-50 extra month that it is probably costing me in the financing I welcome its conviences. Navigating on the busy streets of DC it is a necessity to find backwoods routes to miss the traffic jams that everyone else must suffer if they haven't lived in the area for 20 years.

I bought the navigation system and have been pleased. I do however, have a question. I have the brightness option set on automatic and was wondering if whether at night it is supposed to dim itself automatically. I have a Cadillac XLR and it dims itself whenever the headlights turn on. The only way I can get my Magnum's nav system to dim is to manually do it. I have to take it back for a repair on the CD and was wondering is this something I should have the look at.
