I'm not sure but I would be willing to bet that an aftermarket NAV install won't integrate with the electronics under the speedometer or the controlls on the steering wheel. I have the NAV in my RT and it is well worth it, I didn't have the U-connect which I wanted from the factory and the dealer said it would be no problem to install which is wasn't, however it is defenately not the same as the one from the factory and most of the features that it should have, are missing. I would reccomend not installing an aftermarket if you have the choice of getting it with the car as an option.

I think you may be correct....

I had to take my Magnum in to check to see why the engine light
came on. The only error code that was present was for the sound
system.....when they checked further, they found that the NAV
system had my vehicle as going over 47,000 miles, where there
was less than 7,000.

I keep a laptop computer in my car for navigation, music, rear-seat DVDs, emergency phone, and Centrino wireless mobile email at many coffee shops and airports, datebook, calendar, phonebook, gamebox, ..... It is ideal when you have a co-pilot. I also added some velco and an "L" bracket to the car's center stack that allows me to prop up the laptop when it is opened up about 180 degrees. This does cover up the climate and radio controls, but a 14"-15" display is very easy to read when you really need navigation support.

I would never purchase in-car navigation. Too expensive. Too limited in functionality and upgrades. Too tiny of a display.

But you also have to lug that laptop out of the car or chance getting it stolen. Built in nav systems don't go anywhere and its always there waiting to do its job. Plus it integrates nicely with the EVIC display.

I sent the coupon in about 1 1/2 weeks ago. Got a call Monday from Alpine. The needed my house address to send UPS. I put my P.O.Box on the card. They said I should have it by the end of the week.

Update... GOT IT WEDNESDAY 02-16-05.

Regarding the NAV....has anyone used their "coupon" to get a new DVD? If so,
how long did it take to receive it?

Still unable to use "turn by turn from my residence, but I guess I can figure
out how to get to the main blvd. :-)

Hi all.

I am new to this forum and have a question about the NAV upgrade / replacement. I just ordered the unit and ordered the bezel and wondered why the big difference in the non-NAV bezel and the NAV bezel? There is about $70 difference in price with the NAV bezel much cheaper. Is there something I am missing on the upgrade?

Otherwise, thanks for all the good info. While I may be new to this board, I am not new to the enthusiasts boards. My last toy was an '03 Harley F150. Kinda hard to go down so much in power to the RT but this car is so much more comfortable and fuel efficient that the change is well worth it. I am very impressed with how much Dodge has changed since my last R/T in 99. Night and Day difference.

Anyway, looking forward to the fun!!
