Default Neon Engines

Will a 2000 Neon engine and transfer case fit a 2003 Neon? I can't tell if they did anything different so it wouldn't fit.

I think they will but I would pay close attention to EGR, I know my 2001 does not have it and IIRC the 2003's do, whether or not there is mounting for it i'm not sure.

It could cause emissions issues if you are in one of those states requiring it to pass.

I did some research on this today, looks like there is a EGR Block out plate right near the cam sensor in the head.

From what I can tell an EGR tube runs from this to the intake right near the flexible snorkel almost opposite the PCV hose to intake.

From what I can see there is no way to "knockout" the intake so you will have to use your current intake on the replacement engine and remove the EGR blockoff on the head.

Only other difference i can think of between the engines now from previous research is I recall some mention of the crankshaft being changed a tad ( possibly weaker ) in the later 2.0 models.

So basically I just need to take the sensors, wiring harness and intake off my 03 and put it on my 00 block, right?

Not sure where your locale is but i know a junkyard that has a no title mTX 2.0 SOHC with 30K on trans and engine. I can vouch for it I saw/heard it run, car is complete. $1000 for entire car so I imagine just the engine would be fairly reasonable.

They also have a 04 SXT low miles no title but I didn't investigate further as the 00-02 engines hold up better.

Located in new england.

The engines are the same internally...the transmissions in 2000-2001 Neons hold up better than the 2002-2005 electronic ones.
