Default Fiance's Neon needs help...

Hi Guys! got a newbie here! Sorry to bother you, I am more of Jeep guy than anything. Anyway my fiance's neon has been stumbling for quite a while. She has had a new CPS put in, new wires, plugs, valve gaskets, etc and still no avail. I finally got ticked off and pulled the code myself since it is still doing it. Got code p0302 (cylinder misfore number 2) The general reasons I know of for this are plugs, wires, CPS and coil packs/ distributor. Now for the dumbness. Is a 2001 Neon still running a distributor or coil packs? And where is the best place to find them for cheap? Is this my only last culprit or could the CPS have gone bad again. I am tired of her spending so much on it and would liek to getthis done myself this time.

TIA everyone!

Mike

The Neon runs on a coilpack and cheapest place is just your local auto parts store.

Thanks for the quick response. I thought so and checked autozone.com and came up with "Not available" for the coil pack. Will just go there tomorrow.

Thanks again!

ok another dumb question. Where under the hood is the coil pack located? On my Saturn it is very easy to get to, but I know sometimes companies can make them "dealership only friendly".

Thanks as always!

it's right above the valve cover which is at the top of the engine bay. Really easy to get to, no digging required. You would have already seen it during the install of the wires. The wires are really only a few inches long and connect the coil pack directly to the spark plug.

Also, while you're at it run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through, just stick it in your tank and drive it like normal, if it helps run another through. I use the stuff by STP about once a month and I've never had a problem. Check the air filter. If none of the above works, it could be either the PCM (the computer) or the throttle body which is near the front of the engine on the driver's side. It's gray metal and is connected to some bellows tubing (accordian shaped rubber tubing). There is the odd chance that this could be gummed up, but I would try the other stuff first.

Whyte69 Thanks for the great reply! I never have the car in front of me as we live apart thus the reason for my questions. She has had all the previous wires, plugs, CPS work done at the stealership which kills me, so I am taking over now I will get to tear into this thing today and the coil pack, and a sea foam enema is in order along with anotehr new set of plugs after that. Then we will see if that helps at all.

Thanks again!

Mike
