Default Diesel prices

Does anyone know why Diesel prices (fuel) are raising as the regular fuel is dropping? Did I miss something on the news?

I know that around Kansas that flooding caused a drop off in oil being brought to processors so the price jumped. I'm not sure other than that though.

The floods in SE Kansas caused a crude oil spill in Coffeyville. I was in the neighboring county (Chautauqua County) assisting the local emergency manager. I was in on the conference calls with the State Emergency Operations Center daily and it appears that it is a really big deal. There may be more debris from these floods than were from the tornado that destroyed 2/3 of Greensburg KS. That refinery supplies the majority of the diesel fuel in the central part of the country. Around here in NW Kansas, diesel is about $2.95 and Unleaded is $3.27.

The deal with diesel prices is this. There are no diesel only refinery's in the United States so in order to refine diesel fuel the refinery must shut down alter production make the diesel fuel and shut down again altering production to go back to gas. The fact is many more people are switching to diesel which is driving demand up while the supply is not as generous as gasoline. It's no government conspiracy against us Cummins guys and gals it's simply we don't have enough refinery's pumping out diesel fuel because of the down time and cost. I think we should start our own diesel only refinery!!!! I'm paying 3.20+ for diesel here in Southern California while gasoline is finally down at the $3.00-3.15 range. Blaaaaaaaah.

There are plenty of Bio's out there and hell for 5k you can even make your own Bio-Diesel in your garage.

I'm sorry, but I just can't buy that.

All's I know is this .... prior to two planes crashing into two buildings diesel fuel was abot 20 cents less than regular fuel. After 9-11 it is now about 20 cents more than PREMIUM !!

I've heard the same story that you told a million times, but I just can't believe that after 9-11 a ga-billion people went out and bought diesels and that's why diesel fuel has skyrocketed. I'd find it eaisier to believe that the big wigs have used 9-11 as a new excuse to hose America. THAT I believe !!

Haha

That is the easy wagon to jump on no doubt but logically there is just nothing to substantiate that claim. The fact is we have more cars on the road than ever before, more air travel than ever before and more cruise ships floating the seas than ever before and they all take fuel ;o) We need more refinery's in this country is what we need and lets not forget that in most of Europe they are paying $6.00-$8.00 bucks a gallon. Supply and Demand is a very simple economic truth and there is far more demand now for diesel fuel now than probably ever because of the advances they have made, the regulations the government is trying to slap on car manufacturers with MPG minimums which really are only going to be accomplished with Diesel which is why we are seeing such fantastic diesel rides by Chevy, Dodge, and Ford. I know the mileage improvement that I am already seeing will far outweigh the few cents less per gallon gasoline is.
