Default Wheeling Day preview...

well Mike and I ran the Aug 4th trail to make sure it would be good for all and we had a blast... Kersten planned on going but had to bail for good reasons. As for the trail, half of it I've been on and know it pretty well, it is a piece of cake for everyone. there were 2 spots that could be concerning for some, 1 being a narrow bushy area that will have the smaller branches hitting your mirrors and leaves brushing down the sides of your truck. I went thru this w/o any problems and came away with no scratches. the other section is a deeply rutted spot that was about 40' long that you could potentially bottom out on. Mike made it thru ok without bottoming out so you guys should be fine. His D is lower than the trucks. If you see it and are nervous about it, someone blazed a trail around it and you can always go that way. Since I didnt go that way I dont know what you'd expect to encounter. it basiclly went around a big bush to the right of the trail. Past that it is a piece of cake. there are a few inclines & declinesthat are fairly steep and you will need 4wd to make the pass easy.I ran most of the trail in 2wd just to see if I could do it and had no problems until about the 3rd quarter of the trail where it got steep & loose. 4wd took care of it easily. There are fallen branches here and there and you'll need to make sure you dont run over them as they can kick up & bang the bottom of the truck. I was doing great avoiding them for the most part but missed one that was in the shade, kicked it up and tagged the bottom of the passenger door, left an eraser size ding.

anyways... if you watch how you drive & what you run over you'll all be fine... here's some of the highlights of the trail.

yeah I saw most of the vid... dog fiting is not good. when you hear of how many dog bites there are each year, it makes me want to train my dog to be friendlier... there are so many pics of Louie where he is roaming free with next to no worries... when we got him from the SPCA I was nervous about him getting aggressive with people & other dogs. 2 years later, no worries at all

good god. . .everything I see right now is freaking mike vic. . .you can take the boy out of the ghetto. . .but you cant take the ghetto out of the boy.

the only reason the dirty birds do as well as they do is cause of vic. . .take him out and they fall stright out of the air like a freaking brick. he's been making Atlanta look bad with all his stunts lately. . .screw him.

Well Steve, I really wish I could go on this trip. However, looks like my first Mini-me is coming very soon (within the next 2 weeks), so it would be criminal for me to go along.

But, since the wifeoid likes to camp, don't be surprised next year if I ask you for details on how to get to that lake area. Looks like a BLAST! Might make a good 1st birthday for the Mini-me.

Have fun!!

Hey Lance, sad to hear you cant make it but it's for good reasons! Congrats on the new one.

Where is McGill? I'm looking at possibly doing the Great Basin trip late this year (nothing set in stone yet) before the snow hits, any suggestions on where & what to see?
