They wrote an article about auto transmissions called, "20 transmission questions."They interviewedDave Goerend and Mike Lovrich. Some pretty interestinginfo about Dodge, Chevy, andFord transmission, like how much power they can handle in stock form, what needs to be done when making 500 hp, what are the weak links in each manufacturs trans.......
But what I am wondering is when their talking about added HP. Are they talking about it at the wheels, orthe flywheel. I would assume the wheels, becauseGoerend say's the Stock Dodge trans can handle about 325hp. After that you betterget a converter and valvebody. So he mush be saying 325 at the wheels. Lovrich says about 80 hp over stock is all a stock trans can handle. Doesn't a stock, say2007, 5.9 make like 245hp at the wheels? So that 80 hp he say's would bring you up to the 325 at the wheels. Anyway, get what I am saying.

yes, they are refering to wheel power.
stock manuals can get about 280hp. . .auto's I believe are about 10-20hp lower.
80hp seems a bit high to me. . .60-75 is about as far as a stock tranny can go, so that would equal around 330-340hp. but remember, thats max on stock.
Manuals are a different beast. . .and as you can see, they can do a bit more stock.

Hey Drew....I've heard it said that when Damlier bought Chrysler some time ago, that the German engineers from Damlier got together with the Chrysler engineers to re-work some matters such as the transmissions. As with the 48RE, they had Mercedes Benz engineering and parts built into them.
I don't know what to think about that, and tend to not believe the story. Have you gotten any scoop on that?

April.
I believe they are talking about the 48re auto's. Because they asked just one question about the new 6sp Dodge auto trans. They said it look's good, but time will tell.
They say that just adding a aftermarket converter and a valvebody upgrade should have no problem handling 500 hp with stock shafts. But if your doing boosted launches (drag/sled pulling) then you should upgrade the shafts.
500 hp and above Goerend would put in a billet input shaft.
600-650 hp should get the input and intermediate shafts. That's what Goerend say's.
Lovrich says on a Dodge, anything above 375hp, and your going to need atleast a input shat.
Well i'm not going to type the whole article, Get the mag, it was an interesting read.
