Dad has a 2003 duramax. yeah i know we are talkin dodge. same mileage everyone here is talking about. Now he is at 25mgp highway 75. He only did 3 things. Just a brand of air filter the chevy garage recommended. Plane ol filter. Brought the exhaust size up to what I believe the dodges come with. And amsoils the entire rig.

He has a topper on the back, but he always had that.

If you change that configuration, that mpg is avg. for example, a trailer, or his pickup camper.

I've hear about royal purple oil. It's just such a girly name. Amsoil feels more macho. haha!

So what I'm wondering.....

Anyone change over to amsoil get any increase on the highway?

What am I really getting with a chip? More hp = more gas = more $$ right?

One last thing I'm thinking of, someone told me k&n is hard on turbo's because they aren't the best filter.

Anyhow....I can't wait to check out my new 2006 mega cab tomorrow! yeah baby!

My normal mileages are:
Highway: 23-24.5 mpg (Wife driving, kids eyes clinched shut wearing mx helmets in back seat = 20mpg)
In Town: 19-21 mpg (Wife driving, kids w/ death grip on booster seat & broke out in cold sweat = 15mpg)
Towing: 11-14 mpg (Wife won't pull the RV....)

*Best towing milage at 55mph, 60-65 drops it to 10 mpg
(Towing 40ft goose neck triple axle toy hauler for mx racing - trailer weight approx 14K to 16K lbs.)
After reading this and with what the old guy gets I will definately put in amsoil front to back. Good air filter to protect the turbo, and an easy flow out the rear.

I don't think I will get a chip, treat the 30 grand rig good. too expensive of a machine for me to be hot roddin it around......well......maybe just once to see what it can do....and one more time if my buddy is with me......but then again I want to smoke dad's old chev.....well then winter will come and it's just so much fun to slide around in 4x4.....dirt roads are fun too though....that's it...just 5 times....then grandpa drivin for me.....

ya know the kids think it's funny when the rear wheels lite up.......

Question Can I get much better mileage with budget mods?

I have a 1997 Ram 2500 12 valve 5.9L engine 4x4, extended cab,410 gear ratio with 402,000 miles riding on stock LT245/75r 16's load range E@ 80 psi. I never seem to get much better than 13mpg towing trailers. I often weigh in at 20,000 + lbs on the landfill scales. Is that about as good as I can expect would an S&B air intake provide much benefit?

05 quad cab long box
25 MPG @ 150,000 Miles
Stock 5.9l w/ K&N drop in
Lucas additive
6 speed manual
not sure of the gearing but running 33's
4X4
I drive 55-65 m/h and when I drive right at the speed limit I hit 30 MPG an most of my driving is highway with a welding skid in the back.

I'm currently getting 13 MPG city and 15 MPG highway in my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500. The truck is a extended cab, short box with the 5.2L. Everything on her is stock, all-terrain tires, and no additives.

I am running 245/75/16 tires, 310k on the odo, 3.55LSD gear ratio, 24valve ctd. I average 17-18 mpg mostly city, and 21-22 mpg mostly highway.
