My Grandmother on my Father's side passed away the first week of January 2007. The family was expecting it, so it was sad but not really a shock. Then I came out of a meeting yesterday AM, I had a ton of messages on my Cell and my Office phone. For some reason my heart just sank. My Grandfather (mother's side) passed away January 29, 2007 at 10:45am. He got from from his Dialaysys (sp) appoint and told my grandmother he was not feeling well. He then went to lay down and passed away. This has left a huge hole in my heart. To our family he truly was an American hero.
He was born on 12/25/1925 in Arkansas. He lived through the depression andmoved out to California in the 30's with his family. He joined the Merchant Marines and fought in the Pacific theater for the Army. He survived being shot; malaria; starvation, and numerous other hardships. He came home after the war to a babygirl and when on to have another girl and a boy. He was a painter and started his own painting company.
Grandpa, thanks for all you have taught me and make sure you watch the superbowl with us from that higher place.
Thanks for listening.

For starters, remember he's going to a better place and that he'll always be there in your memories and in your heart. That said, I'm truly sorry to hear about your loss. I know what its like to lose people you love or care about.
In the last 6 months, my brother has lost his grandmother, his grandfather, and his greatgrandfather. In fact, he lost his great grandfather on one weekend, and his grandfather the following weekend. It's truly hard to lose someone like that so unexpectantly.
Best wishes and deepest condolences to you and your family.

I feel for ya brother...
Last time I saw my grandfather was the day before I left for Basic Training.
I was kind of a trouble kid (go figure) and the old man, with his cane and all, grabbed me by the collar and put me up against a wall and said, "Don't you think of coming back here early"
That's the last time I saw him. Vet of WWII and Korea.
It's alwasy tough losing good folks, but he's better off where he is now.
