Whats your question about custom tuning though? You dont have to take it to a dealer to get "flashed" or "read" or anything. you plug it in, save the current stock file on your truck, send it to the tuner so they know what your computer is telling your truck already, then they modify it based on what you're looking for (i.e. cam). They send it back to you via email and you load it into the DSP via usb cable, then onto the pcm with the DSP. All the programs needed are available for free download online

Thanks, sounds like a good time to trade my SCC3865 for a DSP.

AF_Hemi, are you using a canned tune or custom? If custom, do you have any recommendations who to use? What is the cost associated with the custom tunes? I guess I have to read through the DSP thread.... That'll take a few beers.
Thanks,

Custom tuned for me. If you want any kind of aggressive cam at all, it'll need to be custom tuned. With the 210, theres no way around it... this thing is a straight up beast. I went through Marty at KRC Performance. Tuning is $250 for lifetime tunes. Other tuners are good, but i dont think anyone knows the 03 as well as Marty, so he's the only one i would suggest for us.

Dont waste your time with the DSP thread -- it'll take you years. What do you want to know about it?

AF_Hemi, Is there any disadvantage in using the DSP compared to the SC3865? Is the SC3865 a fair trade with a DSP (U7137) + interface? Are there any other DSP units that should be considered? With trans control out of the picture this seems pretty easy to compare. I still have cam, heads and headers on my list. Thanks,

AF...Duh ya..Just realized about Mexico's Avatar... [QUOTE][Whats your question about custom tuning though? My question was, The DSP Dealer, not the Dodge Dealer, locally does custom tuning, so my question or what I meant to say was...Can a custom tune be done for my current set-up by them so as to take full advantage of my mods based on the data they get from plugging in the equipement sich as you described, which would save me the cost of that equipement until I get a more aggressive cam to justify the costs. If so I should get the DSP now and take advantage of such increase if possible, if not I will carry on with SC until I purchase better Cam, and the equipement you descibed (which I printed out and placed in a binder and have not read up on since). So I guess the question would be for that local DSP Dealer programmer guy up the road in Bassano AB. ...Know what I mean? Thanks.

P.S. I can't do e-fan yet as we got 95Km winds today and snow-slush-rain, etc. Can't wait to see the improvement I get, as I should have done it a long time ago in my mods pursuit. I will then report/comment on the Data Log Thread, Which IMO has had conflicting Data the last couple of days and thats all I'm gonna say about it.

No, your on the money as far as I understand using the DSP. I jumped on the SC wagon mostly because my friends were buying them and raving how good they were. Having the only 03 in the bunch I was left out. My plan is to go with the DSP and get a custom tune even through I don't need it with the minor mods I have. But when I go into the motor I'll be setup to retune at that point. I basically have two plans. Plan A. If the engine is still running good I'll do only heads and cam. Plan B, if it has a problem I'll do crank, heads and cam. This is a street truck, but I do like to play with it some.

Speaking for the 2003 SPECIFICALLY, there is no advantage to the 3865 over the DSP. The DSP has the advantage because it allows custom tuning. For other years, yes the 3865 has far superior trans options, but since we dont get it anyway, we cant count that as an advantage. As for other units, the Diablo Trinity is by far the best thing you could have. Its quite a bit pricier though. Check out weedahoe's thread on his new trinity...its a slick little machine.

What extra equipment are you talking about? I guess we're still not on the same page. Do you mean by taking it to the local guy you dont have to buy a DSP yet, but can still have them load a custom tune onto your truck using their DSP? If you can get a free custom tune that way then go for it. As far as when the cam comes, I wouldnt trust them with it. These hemi's are extremely touchy and very difficult to tune properly. Its even more exaggerated with the 03. I wouldnt trust anyone that doesnt specialize in HEMI's (i.e. Marty). Aside from the purchase of the DSP (which some people would trade for the 3865 -- you might even get the DSP + cash for your 3865 now that the trans stuff came out yesterday) you really only have an extra cost of $250 for all the custom tuning you need. I'm not sure if we're on the same page or not .... correct me if im wrong.

Thats a great plan. Until you get a cam and require custom tuning, there is no advantage to getting a DSP. See if you can trade your 3865 for someone elses DSP + cash (as mentioned ^^^). Once you go custom tuning, you'll need the DSP
