Winter + SRT-4 = ?
I'm relatively new to the SRT-4 scene, I read a lot of the posts and value the info I see here. My questions:
Winter is around the corner and the SRT-4 is going to see it(sadly) and I have Pirelli P 6's on her so I'm good to go there, but is there anything I should know about with cold weather and the SRT?
Are turbo cars and wintertime a bad mix?
Will cold temp's trash the turbo?
Thanks in advance for the help...Any advise with winter with it would be good.

turbos love cold weather, so i won't do anything to it as long as you give it appropriate time to warm up before driving.
those pirelli's, while nice, aren't going to cut it. you need dedicated snow tires. these cars are dangerous as it is in the winter, you really need a good set of snow tires on her to allow you to move around....

i usually give it until my wideband has warmed up, it's an easy timer lol. that's maybe, i dunno 20 seconds or so? maybe 30? just enough to make sure that the oil is circulating in the turbo.
honestly any snow tire is going to be better than a all season. i've heard good things about the blizaks, and i think fusion makes a snow tire as well that's a little cheaper. check on tirerack for package deals, you can sometimes get them mounted on 15" steelies for cheap.

It warms up pretty quick, even in the winter. If you want warm air coming out of your heater, you may to have wait a few minutes.
I was thinking about putting snow tires on mine and driving up thru the mountain passes next winter on my way to Colorado. Then I remembered what going across Heatbreak Pass in Montana at Christmas time was like in a Mustang GT with only "all season" radials......I still have nightmares about that. My SRT-4 is staying down here in warm San Antonio till next spring........

IMO, with good snow tires, this car does exceptionally well in the snow. (a natural characteristic of fwd). I have a set of 4 Winterforce directionals. They are sold through Firestone dealers same as Fuzion as may be what PSI chick was trying to say. They are no where near the price of Blizzaks or Hackupalugeys. I love mine. I would also recommend a dedicated set of steel wheels from a PT cruiser or I guess a new VW bug to keep the tires mounted on. (aluminum wheels do not do well with salty roads and will corrode badly)
BTW I found out Tirerack also has them.

Are the SRT-4 wheels in winter with salt a bad idea? Corrision you say? Will they be trashed out or what, I'm not hard on my car and I'm very very close to a car wash if need be...
Anyone got any experience with them? Can I expect fading and cracking or what?

Most SRT-4 owners I know in areas where they use salt, switch out the wheels and the tires for the winter. Even with snow tires, you have to be careful how you launch, the least amount of excess power will cause problems.....I 've driven front wheel drive cars in the snow and they do have better handling, up to a point. The problem is the SRT-4's power comes on all at once in 1st gear and you really have to be light with the foot.

not sure of exactly what kinda tires i have (havent looked at them in like 10 months now), but they are dedicated winters on 15" steelies. True "Winter" tires are a MUST for the car.
i almost sold my stock wheels but decided to keep them as my winter only setup. i'll be getting Michelin X-Iceradials pretty soon and will store my axis 18's and summer tiresfor a few months.
