I didn't hear a thing. I would imagine you'd have to have a 1/4 turn of unobstructed free play before you actually had metal on metal contact to make a noise. The nylon just gets soft over time, and the holes get worn out. Your "on-center" steering feel just gets super vague, and you do get some play..
Wow, turner, I just went outside and checked my steering shaft. My rag joint is still good, but that slip joint that you posted is now bad. Definitely wasn't that way the last time I checked it.

There are 6 bolts, 4 on bottom 2 on top. Why Chrysler did that, I have no idea. They should in theory come off, if you haven't replaced them already, replace the gaskets too. You're going to need a lot of gasoline or acetone to clean them up and you're going to need high temp paint. If they're already Chrysler blue, just re-paint them that color. That's what color they are on my 76.
hey so i finally got home for weekend and went for an nice 4x4. truck was good just needs a posi haha and i think carb needs to be rebuilt or i should get a better one just cause on any hill or slant she stalls out on me if im not romping on the gas. does anyone know what carb would be the best for fuel delivery to solve that problem..
Nice. Depending on what carb you have, it might just not be very good on hills by design. Holley makes a "truck avenger" carb that is supposed to be good on some pretty extreme angles. I've never had to deal with that, since fuel injection works at any angle.
