Transmissions
Got a question,
1997 Dakota Sport
17X,XXX
5.2L
4X2
5-speed
I recently discovered the transmission case cracking apart at the transmission mount. I don't know if I'll be able to drive on it much longer. I can only think of either A) replacing the transmission with a new/used one, B) see if someone can weld new material to the case, but its aluminum and I'm not sure how easy it'll be because its cast ( or if it will hold up ), C) replace the case ( if I can even do that without getting it off of another transmission )
Any suggestions?

You can check with alldata if you have access. But I would say two hours labor plus parts and adjust the bands too. Thats if you have are 44/46RE transmission. Same price for a 45RFE transmission too.

Try this first, Put the shifter in low gear at a stop and the drive and move the shifter up to shift into 2nd gear and then drive, does it shift into 3rd gear? If it does, the governor is sticking.

Dealers are trying to make a fast buck with flushes. There should do what you have ask them to do. I don't like doing flushes. I want to pull the pan and see what is going on in the pan. I would change the filter every 15k.
