I'm screwed X 2.....brake issue(s) UPDATE and need advice
Ok, those of you that followed the other thread and provided advice, thanks.....
here's the update from my mechanic.....he's bled the system, replaced the master cylinder, and brake hoses, but now he thinks the proportioning valve is out....
anyone have advice on where to get one? I have to admit, hadn't really heard of one going bad before.....1999 dodge dakota, V6, 3.9L 4WD....
the mechanic called around and none of the autoparts stores carry them....he suggested I call the dealership....
I HATE calling the dealership for parts!!!!!!
would a used one from a junk yard be ok?
thanks for your reply's guys! (and any gals that are lurking! Ha!)

I'm not surprised by his findings, it has o-rings in it too!
You might be able to find an adjustable proportioning valve from a speed shop.
Personally, I'd just get one from the dealer. You really want to put a brake part from the junkyard into your truck?
I'm a big advocate of reusing parts but you have no way to test it and if the system has been exposed to air for a while it can be damaged by moisture in the brake fluid as well.
Bite the bullet.

well, it would go forward fine, but it wouldn't stop....
I know, what a smart-azz....sorry, couldn't help myself....
so, at the end of the day, the mechanic took it upon himself to go to a junkyard and pull a used proportioning valve off another Dakota (a 95, and mine's a 99, so there's that)...he bled the system, new master cylinder, and the used pro. valve....that was it....
$288 bucks later, it works, although I don't necessarily trust it....he didn't replace any of the rubber brake lines either....but, it DOES stop, and the brakes are only barely less than what they were....
he got the job done, but I guess time will tell....
thanks for y'alls advice....
