Default Oh no - Fluids help

The attached pictures are of my rear diff and the engine/trans seal. What is on the ground is from the rear, nothing on the ground under the engine.

With the rear diff, This is one of the few times I parked the truck facing down slope; usually back onto driveway and has a slight uphill spot.

The engine seal seems to just be a little seeping through the gasket.

Hope to get input on how bad these items may be. I will have to take to a shop for repair as these are likely way over my head.

Also, your input on how much of an emergency these look like to fix.

Thanks in advance!
Robb

I believe that your dif leak is a pinion seal gone bad. I would suggest having a shop do it. Should be around 20 dollars for the part, and an hour and a half of labor.

I can't really tell where the leak is in that third picture, I haven't been under my Dak in a long time... sorry.

Yup, pinion seal is right. In studying the picture on my phone, I also notice the drivers left seal is leaking. check out that dark pot on the drum...

Oh boy is right!

The other leak is right behind the oil pan. I believe where the transmission connects, right?

Called my transmission place... could not believe it could be that inexpensive. Essentially quoted your exact amounts.

Pinion and left rear seals, add about 3 hours total labor = $288.

if the bearings don't need replaced, any reason do to so? Seems to me, 205K miles might as well, or waste of money?

Thanks again!

the seeping leak at the oil pan and trans could be the rear main seal, or a bad seal on oil pan.

as for the rear diff.. i know you shouldnt fix what aint broke, but if ur doing the left seal, do the right too.. better be safe than sorry
my $.02

With 200k on your truck, I'd replace the wheel bearings. You're right there to replace the seal. It's not a big deal to pull and replace them.

Besides, there is a chance that a bad bearing is what caused the seal to fail.

Was thinking seal on the right side, too, $130 installed. AND was going to let them evaluate and tell me on bearing wear. It's a shop I trust... at 200K miles I may just do them regardless, fronts have been replaced at around 150K miles.

Thanks y'all!

My transmission shop called today with the "good" news.

All new seals and bearings: ~ $775
Spider gear needs replaced: ~ $120

Not too bad, I guess, if I want to do it right $900

Then, they're discounting the replacement of the 4 O2 sensors, labor only $120

Still less than a new-to-me truck payment the past 3 years. I'll just keep fixin' her until she needs to be shot

Thanks again!
