This is what i found somewhere on a forum, don't know wich one anymore, but i've copied all the interesting and important facts in a file, because i wanted to do the upgrade as you know.

Quote : I swapped my 1999 Dodge Dakota brake hoses to a 2003 Dodge Durango & it all fit.

Too bad for the Airaid tube mod....., could look for a big rubber reducer, somewhere, if that's the problem ?? maybe in the junkyard, but it's hard to find one there because you don't now wich cars have the right fit.

It occurs to me - if you're willing to spend thousands on this (looking at your other posts,) then why not drop in a Gen3 small V8 engine and 8 speed transmission? You'd get a bunch more power, and as light as the Dakota is you might turn 30MPG under cruise with aeromods and tuning. These guys don't have one in at the moment but from time to time they do, and depending on mileage pricing may be under 10K. Look at their other packages to see what all comes with it, and you might be able to claw back some of the outlay by selling what you remove. I used to have a 2016 Charger that weighs roughly what a Dakota does, and it would do 28MPG under cruise bone stock while doing high 13s in the quarter. Sadly I had to give it up for an SUV, sucks when your spouse is handicapped, but what can you do. The same setup in a 5300lb Durango does 17MPG the way I drive. When the warranty runs out I plan to start playing with it.

Yeah... no. thats far too much work for what I have time or energy for. I would be more interested in the 5.9L swap since it came in the truck and the motor has been around forever. Iron block, iron heads, simple configuration with decades of consistent performance. Having had one of those motors in the past, I'd go that route first. Cheap engine, easily rebuild-able (1x would be all I'd need) and could run it to the end. For now, I like the challenges facing me now with the 4.7. Once done with playing with it, I can continue to keep it in the family as a spare while the Ram continues on as the primary.

Another possible project that I would have considered is a lowered 4wd standard cab V8 with MT... Setup for a pavement queen and build for handling in the wet. I think that would have been a fun truck to work on.

Something with the AWD transfer case.

not sure if i mentioned this but, fuel rail wrap done, no more heat soaked fuel injections. barely noticeable bottom end torque bump. running a vacation tank right now to see what normal eco driving gets me.

picked up a j-tcm this morning as well.... $50. i'm beginning to think there might be enough bottom end torque now to effectively use the jtcm...

Replacement engine sensors arrive today crank, cam, coolant, map and front o2 along with a 180* stat (gonna do it and delete the fan clutch). The map sensor is first up by itself, then will do the remaining ones in one shot after a tank with the map.

Adding some mental notes here...

Took truck for a long spin before meeting family for the day, observations:
  • TPS appears to be good, data logger shows it going thru its full range of motion and not seeing anything that points to it while driving (TC locking & unlocking is an indicator while in steady state).
  • CT sensor is randomly opening up, caught it multiple times while watching gauges, drops to -47*f
  • O2 sensor... either the sensor is lazy or the motor is running rich. While under cruise condition it continually measures .7~.8v. It will drop down and swing as expected at idle
  • MAP senosr... only measuring a minimum of -12" of vacuum at any off throttle event. Should be way lower IMO... I'd expect -20"
Odo vs Fuel gauge = better than expected compared to pre-fuel rail wrap. I have seen a 6% bump in mpg's on the Ram 1500 that I had years back however that did include a cooler. Will add miles (currently ~160 on odo) tomorrow and fillup before MAP swap.

FedEx delivery today, MAP sensor goes in tomorrow. I would be tempted to just toss them all in there and be done with it but I am curious to see if the MAP has any change on mpg's. If the O2 behavior changes and the vacuum drops further then that will be a dead give away the current sensor is bad/weak.

Best mpg mod? Mine has been dropping in a Cummins 4bt in place of the gas 3.9l. At 150k miles '99 4x4 extended cab was getting 15mpg. Cummins swap, nv4500 install and it's been 22-25mpg since - about 30k miles ago.
interested to see some of these aero mods.
