Any interest here in better mpg mods?
So I now have some choices to make... install 70mm w/o any other changes (which is what the test engineer in me would do as it would be testing just that change alone), start tuning with HPT (which again is what the test engineer in me would do as it has the biggest ROI) or... just get going on both, do the install and start tuning.
Still on the plate for the engine are:
Minimal aero mods still to be done (may do these next week and be done with them)
Any thoughts from anyone interested?
Still on the plate for the engine are:
- 70mm TB install
- HP Tuner install
- Fan clutch removal
- 180* stat with tweeks to get it to run at 190-195ish degrees
- Modified air box
- Intake tube
Minimal aero mods still to be done (may do these next week and be done with them)
- Front air dam
- Vertical bed seals
Any thoughts from anyone interested?
BBK 70m Throttle Body MPG gain - +1.7mpg ....
I think you might as well do both mods together, as stated the 70Mmm should be given a decent increase and start tuning on this "proven" TB to get the most out of it.
Don't think it will be a dissapointment to install the TB, so even when done only this mod, will probably result it;s staying on there and continue with the HPTune afterwards.
Good luck, seems i have too hunt for one over here too.

As i understand i should be looking for an aftermarket TB of 70mm because this one will gain the most ?
There are some improvements over the years on the oem ones, like mine the 2000 has the smal TB on it, so i'll have too look for a later year TB of a 4.7L or get a aftermarket 70mm TB.

I will do the TB 1st.. just found out I need a network connection for JTEC program downloading, which makes no sense but this is from HPT. What that means is I probably need to get a better laptop and activate the hot spot feature on the phone to do tuning while out on the road (which is what I always do).

I agree with your inner engineer.
Do the throttle body first, and see how that affects power/economy. That would be a useful bit of info for EVERYONE with a 4.7.
