Around here somewhere, are pics of someone elses in stall..... (I wish I could remember who it was....) They put some metal 'guards' on the cross-piece of the hitch, and then mounted the lights to the hitch. Worked great, the lights were protected, and gave a GREAT view behind the truck.

I use a nut and bolt already mounted upside down on the shackle brackets. There are large holes on the bottoms if you look. Then I use big washers on either side. The old lights were on since about 2010 so the nuts had rusted on and the wires corroded. Oh well, it's done and I have super LEDs back there now.

Is it worth it? Good light output?

Yes, all vehicles should have back up lights. I've had them for a decade and most trucks I see have extra lights on front and back especially in WA as it gets so dark with the rain and no sun.

I believe anything that sees road usage is required to have them by federal law.......

I REALLY need to do something on my truck, as the rear windows are tinted pretty dark, and I can't see squat out the rearview mirror at night.

I bought a tailgate light bar (OPT7) and it's super bright.

Took the dash frame out... reinforced the patched together plastic, and fitted the new dash pad.
I must have done a half decent job, as all the screw holes lined up beautifully.
The new pad is supporting the old plastic well.

Ran a length of silicone tube from the factory joint in the vacuum line, through the new hole I made, then installed the overhauled heater box.

Tomorrow the dash goes back in, and hook up the heater and a/c lines (if I have time).

Only one pic today, as I was rushing to get done before running out of light.
More tomorrow.

Yeah, that's why manny's put the weak a$$ white backup lights on but for REAL light you'll need something aftermarket. I first wired some up to a relay about 2010-11 and they helped a lot but I had to cut the wires when I raised the bed for the fuel pump. Going without them was not fun! Loving the LEDs. I could drive backwards through town with them.

Dash readied for install.
Final check that I got everything on the heater box.
And in it goes.
Loosely installed until I made sure all the wires were routed properly, then tighten it all up.
Then hook everything back up... the big test, it runs, and everything that is hooked up works... yeah!

I’m going to add (bond) aluminum doublers where the hvac controls and light switch mount... these will have threaded holes for the mounting screws... yup, don’t trust that old plastic... a job for another day.

It’s starting to look good again.
