repaired the factory CD player

 

In the top left of the picture is where you want to burr it out with a Dremel bit. . It doesn't take much.. The rest of the hole is already there, you just have to grow it that little bit where its shiny.

Haven’t done much for a couple of weeks.
But today I got back to it... I finished the harness for the extra signals the new head unit needs (reverse, p’brake, & camera).
The old setup had pwr, aux, dim, & grnd going from the radio to the pillar gauges... these were hard wired all the way... I had to cut it to get the dash out... so the new one is in two sections with connectors so if the dash ever needs to come out again, it will unplug above the peddles.
These wires and the new ones now neatly join into the adapter harness behind the new unit.



It’s a snug fit, but it does fit... double DIN is in


After a little filing of the opening (it was too small for the unit) the bezel fit.

Considering how it started out, I’m very pleased with it.

And... drumroll...
It works.


The only thing that isn’t right with the new dash/bezel is the headlight switch.

everything else lined up perfectly... my initial thought was I goofed putting the dash frame back together, but on checking, two of the three switch mounting holes are original (not part of the patchwork).
Oh well, something to look at fixing later.

If I feel like it, tomorrow I’ll make a mounting bracket for the backup camera (I have a game plan).

 

I mounted mine under the handle. I can get pics if you want. Didn't you piece the day back together? If so, good job! I went with a 9" touch screen and it's doing good! Looks like you used eBay connectors.

 

Yup... and I would not recommend them.
Used “as is”, more times than not you get a dry joint.
To save my investment, I crushed and pushed out a solder ring, then just used them as shrink tube.

 

Yes, I’d be curious to see how you mounted and ran the wires.
I’m going to mount the camera at the top edge of the number plate... although this is a lower vantage point, it will still give me a view with the tailgate down.

And yes, the dash frame behind the new cap and bezel is pieced together and reinforced.
