Recently discovered that I *do not* have the original engine in my '88 D100.....in my quest to discover the exact engine, I've managed to find the casting numbers for the block (appears to b 12 digits) as well as the time (casting clock and Day/Night indicator) as well as the casting date (8/24/84). Now, the question - there is supposed to be a 7 (?) digit engine ID stamped on the engine (somewhere near the cylinder head) - can anyone give me some clues as to where this last ID is located?? Right now I believe it is on the driver's side (firewall side, of course) near the cylinder head - worst place in the world as far as access......I'm sure some of y'all have been down this road before. The real kicker (and reason) for this egg hunt is that the oil dipstick that came w/ the truck is the wrong one, so I need to rectify this situation if I'm ever going to be able to determine the true level of oil in the beast!!! Thanks in advance for your time!!!! Magruber ![Smile](https://dodgeforum.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Ordered up the hughes plenum repair kit and intake bolts plus a distributor cap wires and a few other odds and ends. Depending on how fast UPS takes care of me I may be digging into a plenum repair this coming weekend. I figure after 15 years it is finally time to fix the original plate/gasket. I still think it is holding pretty well with none of the classic symptums but I got the check engine for the O2 and don't see the point in changing that or the CAT until I get the plenum done.
I have been reading up but may be looking for some crunch time crisis advice this weekend since it is my DD.

Replaced rear shocks last week, mind you they were the dodge stock ones after 150K, not pretty.
Today tried to replace the fronts, bottom nut/bolt no problem... Top one was not so easy, in fact, snapped a small ratchet trying AND snapped a nipple off an adapter for a bigger ratchet... just not my day. Taking it to my bosses shop to get some reinforcements, as my backyard mechanic tools are not so good... lol
