Edit: BJ is pressed down. My misinterpretation of the figure in the FSM.

No.

Ok good.

I had to put an extension pipe on mine. You also might try the double hammer trick, if you have not already to break the seal.

Put eye protection on!! You place hammer 1 on side of the knuckle seat. You take hammer 2 and smack hammer 1. Repeat this going around the seat.

Then get your press on and umpf that **** out. Getting the leverage is the trick if your impact gun is not up to it.

To remove it, I do believe it gets pressed downward....... it has the snap ring up on top there, right? (at least, it did....) Drive it out with a drift, and a big hammer.

Use the hole for the upper joint as a guide for the drift. (make sure the drift is long enough....) Then Hit It Hard with the BFG.

We can usually blow those out fairly easy with an air hammer though.

This is what I thought from research but, I don't see any physical way it could press out from the top down?

Gotta get creative with the press. Will the screw end of the press fit up thru the hole for the upper ball joint? (done that before too....)

Soak it with some chems for a while. Let it sit. Come back later. Work on something else for a while.

Yeah, the double hammer trick is a "at your own risk". So your Dad is using great caution. Poor hammer quality can shatter. You don't need to whack with all your might. Idea is to get the frequency of the shock to disturb the seal.

Have you considered just drilling out the BJ? Really got have the axle locked down so you can use the tried and true extension and brute strength.

I edited my post, my mistake on direction of the pressing out.
