Dana 60 Swap!
I was going to say I would be putting the Y steering back in. Seeing that pix, driving the roads I travel, big tires, I think it would fail just like in the pix. Yes we are lighter than the oil burners but still.
I tried to cross-reference those Mopar part numbers into Moog or any other maker and had zero luck, try it see if you have any better luck than I did.

I will do some digging and see what i can find.
Looking into the recall reports, they seem to be blaming the snapping on the assembly being misaligned when they put it back together. BUT something as critical as a a tre on a steering knuckle SHOULD be able to take some abuse even if its not perfectly installed.
They also say it could become misaligned even if initially installed properly.
So basically its all fd up
EDIT: Supposdely 52122362AH has alignment pins in the TRE but 52122362AJ does not. I orinally ordered 5212236AH. But the J supersedes the H. And im pretty sure they all have problems.

You probably don't want to retaper your knuckles do you?
I have been looking at this and how I might be able to use it or parts from it, get ideas.

I would rather not. I have neer tapered anything before. And I dont like the idea of having to buy new knuckles if I ever want to change again.
Merc, that kit says the driver side tie rod is factory 8.5. Or do you have something else to go in there?
Lets say I would retaper my knuckles, what goes in? Ford steering?
The T-style is good. The TRE are not. The TRE are the same size as the original TRE on the trucks before Chyrsler started retrofitting these 8.5+ steering on trucks.
Question is, is the ID of the tubing the same? As in the threads of the tube are the same. So that you could take an older TRE and thread it into the new tubing. IF it is. Then i think I have some options

Yep, I will not be using that tre. It would be Ford for the pass side tre's and maybe the 98HD drivers side tre. To be honest I am still working this out, I have to match things like thread pitch, dia of parts, the taper in the knuckles. My goal is to put it together with off the shelf parts.
Couple of parts I am going to use, Pass side.
MOOG Part # ES80755 Front Right Outer
MOOG Part # DS300008 Right Outer (Pitman Arm To Steering Arm)

I kindve like the idea of the heim joints because they can take the angles better than a TRE. Which seems to be whole root of this problem. And you have more insurance if it breaks. Whereas if a TRE breaks you are F***ed
I cant find any actual specs on the 8.5. Except that the OD of the tube is 1.625"

Merc & Ham,
Here is a web site I use to get a lot of my parts for steering and axles.
http://partsmike.com/
I ended up building my own steering for my Jeep. Let me know if there is something I can do to help. And Merc if you need to order stuff and have it sent to me and then I mail it to you as USED auto parts I cool with that.

Wildman
Thanks for the site. It looks useful.
Are those parts, specifically the tie rod ends custom but or what brand are they? Do you know about their quality?
I am currently just trying to find some better, tougher tie rods ends to use with the steering I have just purchased
