The Official 2014 2nd Gen RAM Forum OT thread
The big problem is that in today's world a nice fancy smacy college degree does NOT in any way shape or form mean you will get a good paying job.
It DOES mean you'll be in debt for the rest of your natural born life, unless you can get a full scholarship.
Not to mention there are plenty of places in this country that there simply aren't legitimate places to make a good living, with or without a degree.
What does everyone say to that? Go move your *** somewhere there are good paying jobs. Ok, what's wrong with that? That means EVERYONE looking for good work with solid credentials/work history to get those jobs is going to targeting the same places, as they have to go where the work is. And that is simply not in the reality we live in.
That doesn't mean you should pay everyone $15/hr regardless of their job, but at the same time there will always been a need for people in the service industry, and do those people deserve to live (well) below the Federal Poverty line? No.
There is no straight, easy, cure all solution to the problem. But the "get a degree and then get a good paying job" simply doesn't exist anymore.
And this isn't going to be true for ALL employers, but places like WalMart and McDonald's, can EASILY pay a livable wage without having huge price increases to the customers. There are plenty of studies out there on the cost of goods if say WalMart payed their workers a real wage and put the cost directly on the customer, the price increase is so little you really wouldn't notice it..
Again that isn't going to be the case for all employers, but lets face it, we're aiming at McDonald's, WalMart, etc..... The companies making BILLIONS per year and paying their employees crap...

no a degree doesn't guarantee you anything. Not having a degree doesnt mean you will be poor and make minimum wage your whole life. Some things just come down to luck. But a whole lot of it is what you go out and make of yourself. ANYONE can go to a community college and get a two year technical degree or what have you, some times in less, and get a decent paying job.
The big problem are the people makin minimum wage and complaining about it because they want to be able to work less then 40 hours a week and make CEO salary. It just doesn't work like that.

Sorry if my point in that went over your head, but as you can see it was not targeted at you lol.
I have much respect for our active and retired military and I thank you for your service to our country
Speaking of: since you rejoined the military at one point was that after bush got the GI bill pushed through, and if so, were you able to take advantage of that?

I understood everything you said and agree 100%. I had myself a little rant a few weeks back along similar lines but it got deleted.
Yes I have the GI Bill not that I can go back to school. But I'm also 100% disabled so my wife & kids can use my GI Bill. My wife used it and got her BA 2 years ago. And it hasn't made any difference as she is still looking for a job.
I have little to no respect for kids that are still living at home past 18-19 years old. I support the idea that EVERYONE should have to serve 2 years in our military. I could care less if you come from a rich or poor family you should serve. It would do our young people a world of good.
Jiabop,

I agree as you can read my post above.

Wholeheartedly concur. It is a life changing experience, even if you never see combat. Not to mention, if some rich politicians kids are ALSO in the service, they aren't going to be quite so enthusiastic about invading some small country for no reason.
so yesterday, the wife went to her obgyn, for a follow up on her positive pregnancy test. they had to do a pee test there, came back negative, wtf? so the sent us upstairs for a blood test. we waited around for 45 minutes, for them to tell us, that, that also had supposedly come back negative.
her doctor, is a moron, he honestly almost got my temper to the point of boiling over, and beating the crap out of his face.
this doctor is the reason why we lost our last baby, and he had the nerve to tell my wife that she should get a refund on her pregancy test because they werent correct(she had 2 positve tests mind you)
he refused to give her an ultrasound, or do any sort of exam to find out what was going on. shes almost a month over due for her monthly. luckily she has another appointment, with a different doctor, at a completely different office on thursday.
sorry for the rant, this doc just has a way of pissing me off...
