Thanks for this write up, I'm one of the many planning on doing this when my auto finally dies

I'm about to buy a donor truck for this swap. The only question that I have that hasn't been answered is whether or not you need to use the harness from the manual truck to do this conversion. I understand the ECU needs to be swapped, but do the wires actually have to be, or can I splice in my connectors from the manual wiring harness?

The pcms (on obd2) are three plug. You just unplug and plug the new one in.

All the manual pcm did really was raise the idle. It catches about at 1000. Then if you're a stop light or whatever it will drop back down to the 700 area like normal.

Perhaps my logic is wrong..... I'm open to ideas.
This is some thing that I have been wondering.... When Im coasting down a hill Ill shift into nuetral and hold in on the clutch and the engine rpms will only drop to 1000. Why wont it drop to 650-700 rpms? It will finally drop to 650 when I come to a complete stop. So Im thnking (and correct me if Im wrong) the speed sensor is what is keeping the rpms up until the tires stop moving. Yes , no , maybe.....

My manual does the same thing. It's so it's easier to shift.

So does my auto. Rolling to a stop, the idle doesn't fall until the wheels stop turning.

Sorry to bring back a old thread, but I'm in the middle of this swap and I have a complete donor truck. Do I need to buy a pilot bearing sleeve or can I pull the one from the 5.2 in my donor truck?

If you have a donor it will be the. I would get a new bearing though.

What engine? 5.2 to 5.2?
