Actually, that sounds perfectly reasonable. Keep the R's up if the truck is still moving, to make shifting easier, and go easier on the clutch..... and if you stop, then drop the idle down to reduce fuel consumption, or some such.

Ham Bone, did you end up finding a solution for your front driveshaft? I'm looking to do this swap on my 1500 soon, and I plan on upgrading to the same tcase you have (241). Thanks for the awesome write up!!!

The solution is to find a ds from a factory 2500 With the the same setup I have now.

Or to get the front driveshaft shortEned about an inch or two.

I have not called the shop yet though due to being really busy.

Any ideas how long these nv4500's go before a rebuild? I found one for $700 that works good, but has 210,000 miles. Would you rebuild it before the swap, or just run it till it gives you problems?

Do the NV4500's have the problem with the 5th gear nut? If so, think I would address that, then just install it. Run it till it has an issue.

How hard is it to swap pcm's? I have a manual pcm out of my 94. Anyway my truck is done. I don't have the front ds in but both look the same anyway? I was just being lazy. I can actually stand driving it now!

It's just three screws on the passenger side firewall and three plugs. That's obd2. Not sure about pre one2

OBDI is just one big connector.

If you currently have an auto trans, you won't get O/D, or TCC.

Nice job and write up. Good to see the ARP flywheel bolts and the manual pcm worked for you.

Should be interesting to see how my performance pcm handles the stick tranny if I ever get this swap done.

I'm anxious to get some kind of a tune on this truck now. Should see some nice improvement when I get that death flash off of it. And no worries about breaking the trans now

I put my shortnend Driveshaft in yesterday. I had it cut 2 inches. Shortneded and balanaced for 100 bucks even. Works great.

4lo and first gear is pretty ridiculous. I know 1st isn't a TRUE granny gear compared to some of the old school trans. But I can get out and walk beside the truck when it's in four lo.

Oh and I use second gear as first all the time. First only goes like 10mph with my 4.10 gears. ....
