Some stock transmissions last 100k or more and some go out in 10k. Depends on your luck. I agree with go APS but they are really expensive and even more so if you pay someone to install it so if he gets back what his costs I don't think it would even cover what he wants from APS yet alone install costs.

On the other side APS sells brand new in crate Mopar oem transmissions for a good price. Not some rebuilt junk. However for someone that has to use a local shop and wont go through the internet he probably wont get anything like a APS or close to it.

You went against our advice and went with a local shop because they had a "nice warranty" and your dad, friends, whatever, thought it was a good idea. Now here we are, after you admitted you should get an APS or Dr. Evil, and you have once again ignored our advice and decided to go with something else, because they have a "nice warranty" and you, or dad, the lawyer, whatever, thinks its a good idea.

Sure, Chrysler obviously isn't as shady as that wanna-be transmission shop, but what started all these problems in the first place? A stock Chrysler transmission!

Take the $2200 or whatever it would cost for a new stock tranny, throw it together with whatever you get from them compensating you for the lift removal and new tires, and buy an APS or Dr. Evil.

For all that trouble, pain, and suffering, you should get something that is BETTER than stock, for **** sake.
+1

Home- im convinced APS is payin you.

Neon- At least tell the dealership to put a shift kit and an HD TQ in it. Went through all this loan bull**** and your gonna go back to stock?

Haha nope APS isn't paying me. Wish they were though. I'm just a happy customer. I'm the kind of person where it I have an ok experience like I do with say Wal-Mart I will tell if anyone asks. However if I have an exceptional experience with somewhere I will tell everyone I know how great they were and be loyal to them. If I have a crappy experience and feel like I got screwed or someone tried to screw me or did me wrong you can bet everyone I know is going to hear about it. I'm just that kind of person. If it's horrible or great everyone I know is going to hear about it.

In this case I think APS just builds the best Dodge transmissions and it's a added bonus you can get them to start with a new one then fix the issues instead of a rebuilt one. I just had one of the better experiences I've had with a company with APS.

Another Company I've really had great experiences with is Newegg.com for computer stuff. They are amazing to deal with. If this was a computer site I'd be posting about that. There are several compaines I've dealt with that have been great but also several that have sucked. Most of those have been local places. Most don't have anything to do with a truck or Dodge in general so you don't hear about them on this forum.

+1 on newegg. Totally worth the few extra bucks if there's a problem.

I'm never positive with what I want to do. I haven't made it final that I'm going through the dealer. I sure as hell won't be paying another Maine shop to custom build me anything though. It's either go through Chrysler, or through the internet for an APS. The upside of the dealership is that the warranty is large, no excuses can be made for it not shifting perfectly, and if they screw us, they are an easy target to go after. The downside is I won't be able to drive the truck the way I want to, but I will have a reliable daily driver once again, which is becoming more and more important to me.

As for APS, the upside is that they probably make the best aftermarket 46re transmission. Easy to work with too. I'd be able to drive the truck like I stole it with a performance APS. The downside, however, is that they aren't very tangible. I'd have to buy this unit over the internet and have it shipped to me in Maine. Then once I did get it, I'd have to find some shop that wants to install my transmission from California. That could range from $400-600 for that kind of installation. I also don't have a core, and I don't know if we're going to be able to get our money back for that. An APS transmission with an installation could easily surpass $3,500 and if anything went wrong, they aren't near by to service their unit. Most important, they are extremely expensive. If I went with a stock unit, I would have money left over and be able to finish my loan off.

A lot of thinking to do here. If I go stock, I can forget driving the truck hard like I like to. But I'll be able to pay my loan off, be guaranteed a perfectly shifting daily driver, and it will be Chrysler's baby. If I go APS, I'll get to enjoy the performance of my truck and drive it hard guilt free, but it's going to cost a lot of money, and be a pain in the *** to have installed here in Maine. It will also really **** my dad off. He doesn't buy into all the performance crap. To him, buying a new unit from the dealership and having a stock running truck is what is the norm. He'd be very pissed to see me trying to chase the performance dream again after what we are going through. So it's tough.. It's not that I'm not listening...I hear ya guys loud and clear. I'm just talking out loud.

Just tell your dad you're driving over to steve05ram360's house to watch the game and then swing by and pick up an APS, Simple!
