Dripping Coolant

I payed someone to do mine as it was already in the shop. They were trying to figure out why no heat and he thought that was why as he said it wasn't pumping like it should. Turned out not to be the problem but I didn't want to mess with it at the time. If he has free time a diy job might not be bad but if not I don't think paying someone for something like this is horrible.

The shop called me this morning and told me it was neither the intake or the freeze plug. He said it's the water pump; it has bad bearings, and is leaking. He quoted me $320 to replace it. Is there anything special I should buy for a water pump, or is the Napa part he quoted me sufficient? Also, is there anything else I should have him do while the truck is having the pump replaced? I won't be having him do the job until I receive my tax returns.

Forgive me for sounding ignorant, but I don't get it. Your leak was coming out the rear of the engine. It was dripping off your inspection plate but it's the water pump that's the problem? How is it that a leak from the front would manifest itself in the back of the engine? Nine times out of ten the leak comes out of the weep hole straight to the ground.

So your telling me that "gravity" makes it drip towards the back when it's parked? It travels down the front of the oil pan then up the back of the oil pan to the inspection plate? Maybe on the moon, but not on earth. He's getting hustled. 01DODGERAM, move the water pump pulley and see if it moves to make sure it's really a bad water pump. It could be that you need a new pump, I'm not saying you don't, but that's not causing the rear drip coolant. It's gonna be either a freeze plug or the rear end seal on the intake. My truck has that SAME LEAK and I have a new water pump installed on it. Get a second opinion.
