MonteC's Transmission Corner (For Info Only)
Well my truck is still in the shop, getting the trans rebuilt. They gave back to me doing the same thing of not shifting into overdrive. When I brought it back we went on a 45 min test drive and argued the whole time about it not going into overdrive. The scanner is saying that it is in 4th and the rpm's drop by about 100, and he thinks that just fine. I on other hand think that its just the t/c locking up. While on the test drive got a code for tcc o/d solenoid performance (po1740), so he decided to change that....2 days later calls me and tells me that didn't work. So now they are taking the trans back out and doing it all over again. . Oh If anyone could tell what rpm you are at going 60mph and 70 mph, I would appreciate it.
The tach should drop 4 times, big drop from 1st to 2nd, big drop from 2nd to 3rd, small drop from 3rd to lockup, big drop into o/d.
The scanner doesnt know what the transmission is doing, the scanner only knows what the computer is commanding. The computer will command 4th and show 4th, but it doesnt mean the transmission is shifting into 4th.
Hi, I have a 4 speed manual tranmission that I have aquired for my 1988 Power Ram, but I was wondering if it would be posible to open it up and change the gear cluster to match that gearing of the 4 speed Overdrive tranny. I assume the on that I have is the NP-435, so can I change the gears to match the A-833? I am capable of doing the work, just not sure if it can be done. Thanks.

Hello, New member, 1st post here.
I just purchased an 01 5.9 4x4 auto with 110k miles. Trans shifted ok.
I wanted to do a tune up (plugs, wires, ect.) I also put in a new TPS.
I changed the trans fluid and filter. (there was a good bit of sludge and debis on the magnet, but not milky fluid)
I read somewhere that 4 quarts should be put back in. I drove it around the block and it shifted horrible, checked the fluid and it was low, I added another quart.
It still was shifting weird. Basically I continued this process until the dipstick read right (6.5 qts later) Is this to much? Dipstick reads fine now???
The tuck seems to be shifting later than before, and Sometimes o/d shifts hard other times smooth as silk.
I need this to last at least 6-8 mo before I can do a rebuild.
I guess Im asking if the trans is gone? If it is, can I milk it another 6 months (daily driver will see 30-40 miles a day)
If its not where do I start with it?

Be sure you are checking your fluid with the truck in neutral. For some reason, dodge thought it would be a good idea if the trans did NOT fill the torque converter in park......
Having too much is just as bad as not having enough.

The amount you put in differs. Go by the stick, when in neutral. I would adjust the tv cable, check your new tps, and add a bottle of red smart blend.
1995 dodge ram 5.2 46rh
since i have had the truck i alway have to make sure the truck is in frist gear taking off.... like driving and stop at a stop sign i make sure i feel it down shift into gear,, if not it will bump in frist gear taking off.... i changed the fuild and filter it doesn't happen as much i think,,, time for smart blend?

MonteC, In my son's 94 1500 automatic we just replaced the engine with a junk yard engine. Long story short. I pulled the torque converter off with the engine.(not sure why because I have done many engine swaps) So I replaced the seal and put it back on after I removed it from the engine. Well after we finally got the truck going I now have a serious leak from that seal I assume. is there something else besides that seal I need to be looking at? One other thing is it has a good leak from the selector shaft seal. With the tranny out is that a big deal to replace? You are a good man for taking the time to help people like us out. Thanks. I guess I should add that its the 5.9 engine 4x4. anything special I need to know before I drop the tranny. Like should I drop the transfer case with it or leave it there. Sorry I am new to Dodge trucks. Thanks Neil
There is no seal between the engine and TC at least not on mine. Also is should come out as 1 beings its bolted to the engine. Might be different on a 94??
Monte on a basically stock tranny. Had some stuff replaced in the past. How long will it hold up doing WOT runs?

Thanks for the info! What is the tv cable? Also where can you find smart blend? I've looked at a few part stores and haven't found any yet?
