Default Disconnecting my A/C compressor

My a/c compressor starts cycling from low coolant during this time of year due to a slow leak will it damage anything if I disconnect the power from it to prevent it from cycling all winter when I'm not using it? I have to charge it during the summer but its now getting low enough to cycle and I wont use the a/c until next May.

They cycle normally, even in the winter. To keep the system oiled and to help with condensation on the windshield. Especially when the defroster is on.

Unplug it. Won't hurt it, so long as there is no moisture in the system.......

Since there is a leak somewhere, I'm betting there is moisture in the system. Is it cycling when the AC is on ?

You are right, but depending on where the leak is it can also be sucking air in. I just want more info as to what he means by "this time of year it cycles".

Good point, hadn't considered that.

Sorry guys haven't been able to get on the computer. when the system is charged in the summer it cycles as you would expect it to but when it starts getting low on coolant it cycles every few seconds on and off continuously. even before I chrge it in the summer it never blows hot air and is generally cooler that the outside air but not cool enough to keep the summer sweat away when it's on. but there is a distinct difference in the mount of time when i is charged to when it is low. Wha I meant by this time of year is when I usually never run the A/C. usually late fall ealy winter basically now until late May.

Like I said, they cycle even when not using the AC.

The AC clutch doesn't "cycle" all the time normally. It comes on when you have AC on or have one of the defroster modes on. So you DO use the AC this time of year.

Unplugging it shouldn't hurt anything.
