i took the oil pump off and inserted the drive shaft and tried to turn it by hand. it turns very freely but only about 120* in either direction, its ofcourse never been operated, whats the deal?

Probably the corrosion in the cylinders.

so a new pump is in order?

a guy ik who works at the most reputable shop in the area offered to do all the work for free- tear it down, hone it out clean up the block, clean all parts, blast the heads, inspect valve seats etc.

took the cover off and dissasembled it, put it back together and it binded less then not at all, put the cover back on and it spins freely now... replace just to be safe? no corrosion

what head gasket thickness do i get?

I would replace it just for S and Gs. No point putting it in there, and then finding out it has a problem. (after it smokes your nice expensive motor......) Go for what ever stock thickness is... or, whatever was in there when you took it apart.

the felpro gasket doesnt have any numbers on it, how do ik what size it is?

why do the oil pumps list a 4.0 bore size?
