Pulling my tranny this evening....
Now I've gotta figure out what I'm gonna do about the old shim, it's .210 so it's the next size larger than my requirements. I guess take it to a machine shop and have em take a little off. Unless it's kosher to use the one next size up if your measurements are that close. I just don't wanna have to order and wait for it...lol Then is it necessary to drill that hole in the lube gallery through the case if you have the new style piston retainer support with the o-ring? If so, I've gotta source a drill press cause that hole size is rediculous small. I'd break it drilling it by hand for sure...
The hole is just a recommendation by sonnax when you upgrade to their piston retainer support. http://www.sonnax.com/system/instruc...54N-01K-IN.pdf
So after reading the transmission corner thread again...lol, I discovered J415 went through this same exact blunder. I knew I read something about it previously, but couldn't recall where. Page 18 transmission corner thread. So thanks guys, my stackup was too short in the drum. Old stack measured 1.000 new stack was only coming in at .9350. My bad for freakin over something I knew I already read about, and just forgot to take into account when putting it all back together. Will have new measurments soon.
Feels good to solve a problem, huh? Trust me, ive taken one transmission apart several times trying to find that odd part or issue, because my clearances are not coming out right. It happens to the pros as well.
Thanks a million guys. And yea, I drilled the hole in the lube gallery but I had to use a 1/16th" bit because that is the smallest one I had. It's about .060 instead of .040. So a lil more lube can't really hurt. Sonnax says .040-.045 is recommended. Now I'm onto assembling the main case. Seriously, thanks again guys.
Another question...so I called WIT today because they actually shorted me 4 frictions for my forward clutch in the main case, so they sent em' to me today free of charge. I even neglected to order the copper plated thrust washers that go in between the from and rear planet in the main case and in the sun gear shell, so they threw those in for free. My question is, I'm not particularly one to complain about free stuff, but the I.D. of the new washers they sent me are slightly larger. I had a 4 tab between the forward planet and the forward ring gear measuring 2.5300" I.D.
They sent me a replacement for that, same measurement. I have a 6 tab in between the forward ring gear and sun gear shell, they sent me an identical replacement for that. Now the third washer that goes sun gear shell to rear planet, the I.D. is the same 2.5300" I.D. but my old one measures 2.2500" I.D. Is this harmless or will I have to complain about the mismatched parts? Lol... Otherwise, I'm about ready to button this thing back up. Thanks guys.
