lifting my 2wd
#51
I saw a post 98 truck today that was pretty high, it had a first gen rear bumper stock 16s and some pretty big tires(pretty sure they were 35s). I was on the bike so I couldnt really gauge how much higher it was than my truck but it was 2wd and pretty level. it definately had room enough to never rub.

wow seems like our trucks have a lot in common as far as issues. haha i just got a new radio too last night that is a cd/dvd player. and from what ive heard i could do a 2 inch front level and drop shackles in the rear which in turn would lift the back and that would be 2 inches right there, plus spindles/blocks, and a 2 inch body lift and it sounds like it could work. haha

to hell with you guys, at first I was thinking 3inchs of lift is to much for me, now I am thinking to add a few more, is a contagious disease or what? hey I need another job that kind of things are expensive, how much would be for a set of spindles, rear add a leaf plus blocks and bigger tires, then I need to stop buying happy meals, pampers, monsters(for me), no more ihop breakfast etc.

I run 37's on my 97 sport. 3 inch body, 2 inch coil spacers and 3 inch spindles. sits level and doesnt rub at all. You can fit 33's with around 4 inches of lift (spindles and small spacer) and 35's with around 6. The shocks I use with the coil spacers are procomp extended length 9000 series.

I'd get those squeaky ball joints replaced as soon as possible. My driver side was crazy noisy and I couldn't turn all the way to the left without my lower control arm eating into my rim.
The upper ball joint was damaged but had no play, the bottom ball joint well... It's the rivet on style, so hold it with the ball stud facing up in the air, it was like a limp dick... It just goes everywhere and couldn't hold itself up. And it had a LOT of up/down play.

damn havent been able to get on here lately and all these lifted 2wds are coming from all over the place
From experience I can tell you 5.5" does not work with 315/75/16 tires on 16x10 rims with about 3.5" of backspacing. It rubs, now if you want to cut away then anything can fit, 6" of lift and a 9" rim would probrably be perfect.
Go with a kit it will end up being easier and cheaper in the long run, trust me on this one.
Also pay attention to what bs and rim size you have to run with your spindles your stock rims will not work.
First 2 pics are of my truck within the past couple months, not much has changed since. It sits dead level according to the wheel wells but looks nose high, a 1" rake gives a level look.
It has 33x12.50x15 tires on 10" wide rims with 3.5" of bs
2.5" lift springs
3" spindles
1.75" lift shackles
2" block
The last pic is from a year ago, and has
285/75/16's with 8" wide rims and 5" bs
2.5" lift springs up front
1.75" lift shackles

oh and does anybody know if anybody makes a 34" tire? cause im gonna end up doing the spindles/blocks and body lift unless i can get the links for those ^. but im not cutting up my truck for 35s and i dont want the 33s to look goofy. and the ball joints on the drivers side are terrible, but those along with my passenger mirror and maybe dash will be replaced with my next paycheck.
on another note. great looking trucks guys. any and all pictures are welcome considering i havent seen many other active lifted 2wd threads.

My fiance uses the handles and most of the time I help her in (I get a handful too ). I keep telling her I'll buy her steps but I havent yet, I like the view too much. I still talk about lifting it more and she looks at me like im crazy. but who cares its my truck and she knows it.
