It is NOT interference.

I used a long ratchet extension.

Idk where in the FSM.

We had a member that installed his timing set using the wrong method, and pistons smacked valves. If the timing chain slips far enough, it's gonna make a mess.

a couple months ago, I had the JOY(yea right) of working on my grandma's 99 mitsubishi galant. it died one day when she pulled into her driveway. Took about a week to figure out what was wrong. The key slot in her crankshaft, had totally messed up, not turning the cam. So I kind of rigged it up,(but hey it worked) by JB welding a new key in her crank, cause I really did not want to pull the motor and put in a new crank. got it all back together, everything sounded good(as your truck does), but it would not crank. She actually managed to bend all 16 valves in her car.

I'm not saying that you bent valves, I just saying that not hearing anything doesn't mean that they are not bent.

if'n what I'm thinkin is what has happened, you're likely to either have a straight up broken chain, or shards off the chains rollers hanging out under the cover.. even if there is slop in the chain- something has to give.. meaning: either the rollers take the brunt, or the teeth on one of the sprockets.. either should have left some shavings behind, but maybe not a lot depending on the condition of the chain in the first place..

if the chain is straight up broken, well, that is damn easy to determine w/o hardly any effort... do your rockers move? did ALL of the spark plugs have fuel on them?

Seems he needs to get the front of the motor pulled apart to get a look at the chain!
