I gather, from reading this thread, that the truck "ran when parked"?

I hope I am wrong, but some ign systems don’t take well to having no place for the spark discharge to go to. CDI ign systems are the worst for this. You might have fried your pcm. In the marine world it’s the first thing you do is ground the spark plugs/test leads so the spark has a place to go when doing any tests.

That's what i'm afraid of. If I get a PCM out of a JY will it be able to run my truck with out getting reflashed?, my truck doesn't have any kind of security system from the factory. I ask because I won't be able to get to the dealer for a few days.

If you get one of the right year range (for you, 98,99, I think....) and the correct trans, it should run it fine. You MIGHT get an abs/brake lite. maybe.

o great now i'm not getting any spark. I think it is the PCM. And by no spark I mean that the coil isnt getting a ground sense. Oh well i'm waiting on my friend to get here so I can hopefully make it to the JY before it closes

Is the PCM getting a signal from the crank sensor? Check and see if you have power at the coil, and also at the injectors.

I have power at the coil and injectors. I just picked up a PCM and as soon as I get home I'll put it in. use from a 98 Dakota but i'm pretty sure it had a 360 and an auto T rans. how would my truck run if the Dakota only had a 318?

Little lean in open loop. That's about it. Just listen for spark knock. (good indicator of lean condition.)
