Its alive...turned out to be a combination of a weak coil and an over enthusiastic ECT
Edit: the coil was within limits according to the FSM, but I replaced it any ways because of my erratic spark

btw, was the change due to a leak? (i can't remember) if so, where was it?
The gasket was leaking at the #7 cylinder, but when I pulled the header off the whole gasket crumbled. Moral of the story is pony up the extra bucks for high quality gaskets
