its not that far away thats me pushing it out with the open end....but should it be seated in the piston? or should i just go about adjusting the band?

While you are pushing it, look up inside and see if you can see the band attempting to clamp. After that, go ahead and try adjusting band and hope for the best! That may be all that is wrong or the band may be worn.

thats me holding the servo away from the piston with the open end. should it do that? should I just go a head with adjusting the band?

You are doing with the wrench what the servo piston would normally do, so, yes, it should do that.

Put the strut back in, and adjust the band.

how does it go back in or am i stuck pulling the overdive unit. yes it is a PITA to get in there i dont know the secret either.

Supposedly, you CAN put it back in there, without dropping the O/D unit..... it just seems to be tricky. If you don't have a service manual yet, grab one from the FAQ section, and check the procedure in there.
