Engine Builder Magazine Look for the article called Sticker Shock for the write up on the final build.
I just can't fathom a 408 in your TJ.

Wheeler buddy of mine put a 360 in his TJ with some minor mods. He just finish his wife's TJ (wheeler also), stroked from 318 to the 392. Been about a month or so since completion. Looking forward to seeing it in action.

We stuffed an AMC 401 into a CJ. Plenty of power, enough low-end grunt to push the house of the foundation. It was an awesome off-roader. Very streetable as well. Even the gas mileage wasn't that bad.

WK,
Remember that my TJ is a pig and weighs in at 5,000lbs. That CRD60 rear axle, HP44 front, STaK's t-case and beadlock wheels w/38" TSL SX tires adds up. I think my drivetrain can take the power.

I'll be his TJ and his wife's are both great rigs. Just keep your fingers crossed that I get it done in time to come down for the Rubby.

It is good to see some positive stroked 318 commentary.
Usually it is all about cubes, and if you're building a stroked 318, why not start with a 360.

I've been thinking of getting another block and building a 392 to swap into my truck, being it is a 5.2L.
Most built engines seem to be about big power and torque, but they also seem to be high revving engines... I don't need axle snapping numbers, and certainlly not at 6,000+rpm... even with a more agressive driving style, I'm only going to ~3,500rpm (manual trans).
If stock is 230hp/300ftlbs, I would think 350hp/400ftlbs in a 600-4500rpm range would be more than enough for my practical needs in this truck.
There's hope for me yet

Well the engine they built for the mag was on Ebay with a starting bid of $9,000 so it ain't cheap!!!!! But yes that 392 puts out some nice power.

I would hope to be closer to $6k for half those gains.

Are we talking Tim the Toolman Taylor Binford? I would go to Sears and grunt like Tim sometimes and would get the sales people to laugh now and then.

I get all the parts needed and then when it warms up I can get back to work. If it hadn't been raining like crazy it was 47* here yesterday.
