Figured it was time to update this thread again. The Jeep is coming along SLOWLY and it seems like it wants to fight me on every turn as I do things. After all that worked I'd done on getting the shorty headers to fit once I got the front axle centered properly & the front driveline installed it was hitting the exhaust Y-pipe. So I pulled the shorty headers off & installed the block hugger headers and then built a new exhaust Y-pipe.
I picked up a new cat that had the post O2 sensor bung installed already to shorten up my exhaust system & I added a pre O2 sensor bung to it also.
Then I took everything over to Performance Coatings in Auburn, WA and had them ceramic coat the headers in Glacier Black.
And the Y-pipe & cat in Gray.
IMO it sure looks nice against the engine with the Black valve covers and Hemi Orange block.
Hemi Orange, what more needs to be said?
Drivers side was a tighter fit but I got them installed.
Y-pipe went on like I knew what I was doing when I built it.
And everything fits. Hopefully having the cat ceramic coated will help with the heat that it radiates off of it.
Muffler clears the upper control arms now a lot better than it did before. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to add a turndown pipe off the end of the muffler.
I'd originally planned on installing a electronic parking brake setup but then found out that I didn't have the room for it once the drivetrain was all installed. So instead I'm installing a ball valve to use on the rear brakes..
Unlocked position.
Locked or brakes applied position.
The plumbing going to the brake line along the frame.
Short video of it running with the new exhaust system installed.
Given that you have an open body like that, might be a good idea to run the exhaust all the way to the rear, so you don't get 'gassed out' while driving slow.
Are the rear tires going to hit the body when the suspension compresses???
Lookin' GOOD! Gonna be WAY too much fun when it's complete.

I would but there isn't enough room to allow the 3" exhaust pipe to fit between the air springs and fuel tank. Plus trying to loop it up over the 4 link rear suspension would be a PITA if there was the room.

Yep they just FIT......
I clearanced them a little more after this pictures.

I'm getting closer. Really can't wait until I get to go out and play with this things.
Wide band readings for a short run of the engine. I'm still running the 5.2 PCM without any tuning or changes. I'd had some issues with the MPVI2 that I'd gotten from FRP but we finally got it fixed.
Why did you restrict the exhaust with a Y pipe? You are running a 6 pack set up and it needs to breath. Kind of defeats the purpose of having it. I would have run duels all the back and found a way to make it fit..

If I'd had the room I would have been glad to run duals. I barely have the room for single 3" pipe. And this isn't built for high HP but more for TQ @ 1800 RPM's. It's a trail Jeep. The 6 pack was just a whim of a option that happened to fall into my lap.
I have a STaK's 3 speed Monster Box transfer case in my Jeep. It is almost 20" wide and if I remember correctly the TJ frame is 30" or 32"
wide on the inside. I had enough issues fitting a single 3" exhaust & 4" round muffler.
There just isn't the space to attempt to run a dual exhaust. And fitting two catalytic converters would have pushed me over the edge.
Look at the space between the transmission and frame. The single 3" barely fits.
There just isn't the space for dual exhaust on here. And NO you can't run down the drivers side since the transmission shift linkage is there along with the front driveshaft.
Here's the dimensions for the STaK's.
This isn't a Ram pickup where you have a LOT more room.
For your purposes, the single 3" is likely a better plan even if you did have room for something like 2.5" duals..... You are more interested in low end grunt, than anything else.
Three speed T-case??? Bet that feller wasn't inexpensive...... Of course, I don't think anything on this project has been.

Pretty much my thoughts also. I'm not going to be trying to outrun any Vipers with this thing.

Back when I bought it I only paid $2800 for it. But that was in 2006. STaK's has unfortunately gone out of business. They had a lot of problems with these transfer cases and when all the issues started their customer service went to ****.
Another company bought the rights & plans to these cases and fixed the problems and also redesigned some parts of the transfer case. They sell their version of the 3 speed case for $5K.
This case has a 3.05 low range & a 5.44 low low range. It's really nice when wheeling in technical sections. I broke 2 cases when I first built my Jeep.
