so it wouldn’t be out of adjustment bands?

Bands would give delayed shifts. Downshifting is a product of the electronics, and various PCM inputs. WHY it isn't downshifting is a mystery to me. There has to be a sensor giving a bad reading, or a binding valve, or something along those lines.

well I’ve been downshifting it manually and would like to fix whatever it is because that just doesn’t seem healthy to do, granted I only downshift when appropriate so I don’t over rev the trans... but I’ve noticed my up shifts are quick as hell so are my bands to tight?

That's possible, but, I think it would show other problems if that were the real problem..... (rude noises when driving, and such.) Need to be able to plug in, read data, and see what all is happening when you are trying to convince it to downshift.

alright.. so I just had another thought.... on my old trans it only had first and sometimes second... but if it was in second it wouldn’t down shift and would stall like mine does now... the only part I used from that old transmission was the valve body... would that cause any of these symptoms????

Yes, and that is a mighty interesting coincidence. Did you rebuild the valve body? Or just stick it in as-is??

I just stuck it in as is... after cleaning of course.... but I thought the “stalling” would be from tcc?

That is what I suspect as well. I know the PCM will whine if it activates the TCC solenoid, and doesn't see an RPM drop, but, so far as I know, it really doesn't care if it disengages the solenoid, and RPM doesn't change.......

Do you still have the other valve body??

yes but it’s shot one, the bore where the ball that moves with the shifter is out of wack now and can’t be used. But I’m not sure if the tcc is technically not engaging... I think the tcc is stuck... I only suspect this because I don’t feel it shifting but when it shifts to third it’s a BIG drop

The 'big' drop may be it shifting into O/D...... Try an experiment, if you can. Go for a drive, find someplace you can maintain a steady speed over 45mph for an appreciable distance. Get the truck up to speed, and LIGHTLY step on the brake. (don't take your foot of the gas) You *should* see RPM jump around 200 or so. (plus or minus) Does it actually happen?
