Hypertech?
Ok, I got my Hypertech Programer about two weeks ago and tonight I desided to try it out, straight forward on the install. But I have a question, I understand most of the setting but one, what is the REV limiter, I can go up or down in sets of +100 or -100. Should I change this? What would it do if I went up or down, Hypertech web site wasn't very helpful.

its basically a setting to keep you from revving too high and blowing your engine up with all that new power. depending on what type of valvetrain components youre running (i.e. racing cam, performance lifters, rods, rockers, heavy springs...) you can set it higher or lower to maximize power at top end. i think with that unit the rev limiter will also help to set your shift points to maximize acceleration power, but im not really that fimiliar with Hypertech, so dont quote me on that one.

Ok thanks for the replys, Ok, so would setting it UP on the programmer would make my Top End better and setting it LOWER would make my low end better? Now if this is correct would I lose any end or bottom end if I went either way? And since it does not change the shift points in my truck does it help any?

yea ... its a computer type of handheld device you plug into the OBDII hookup under the dash... program the computer then disconnect it...
depends of what setting your on is how much you can expect... meaning on 89 octane through 93 octane... go to the hypertech.com website and read up on how they work... good articles they have

Ok guys. Here is the dyno sheet for my truck from the Hypertech website. You will notice that the max HP was at 4250 rpm, max torque was at 3250 rpm. The maximum gains were 18 hp at 4000 rpms and 35 ft lbs of torque at only 1250 rpms. This being on the 87 octane setting which I use. This tells me that the only thing you would gain by setting the rev limiter higher is more af a chance to REALLY hop up your engine when you REBUILD it after it blows up! The numbers for the 5.9 engine were similar - more torque and hp, but the rpms were about the same. Obviously these motors are not set up for high rpm operation in this configuration.
I did read in the FAQ section on the website that the pcm tuning does affect shift points - but there is no direct way to set that, it is in the tuning already.....
Also, if you look at the dyno charts it appears there would be no reason to pay big $ for premium gas - the torque and hp gains are about the same as the 87 program....
