One more thermostat question
Before I purchase the NAPA thermostat, (530080) for my Dakota I have some questions.
1. There is talk about having to cut a small notch. Is this on the gasket or the thermostat?
2.Why is this notch necessary? Does the notch determine the correct mounting position?
3. The spring part goes toward the engine, right?
4. Where the thermostat housing is placed on the engine, does that take a gasket there?
Sorry about the **** questions but, I should be called, "ten thumbs".

1. The notch is on the Stat.
2. The rubber gasket that is on the original stat has a small "bump" on it and the notch allows it to seat fully.
3. Put it in the same way the stock one comes out. (I put it in backwards, but cant remember the orientation off the top of my head)
4. It does not.
Its not a bad job, I have changed mine a few times now and it takes all of 15 minutes now.

I don't think ther's anything wrong with the factory one. It's just that as folks start adding performance stuff to their engine they want the engine to run a little cooler. I went with the NAPA one. I did have to cut the little notch in it for the gasket but, with my dremel it took all of 5 minutes. It was a breeze even for old ten thumbs here!!!
