I had the same issues about the sacrilege of lowering a 4wd vehicle. Then I realized my 4wd ISN'T for the trails, but more for the point of being able to get around in the bad weather, so I put the drop shackles in the rear.

So is JKeaton's and a few others on here..

I think there;s actually a few posts about the lowering shackles and a few pics of trucks in em.

How tall of a tire can you run w/out a leveling kit cause i just bought 4 245/75r16 snow tires and i dont think they will fit w/out a leveling kit. Also how well do 20"s fit because i might get a set next summer and would like to keep the snows for winter if they fit.

if you slam a 4x4 it would be pretty stupid but if its just taking off the leveling kit it wouldn't be bad. I feel the same way about people lifting 2wd trucks.

I have a buddy who has a CJ with 49" tires and he had to convert it to 2wd because of how extreme the lift is. Thats stupid.

I would take the leveling kit out and buy drop shackles for the rear to start. Then who knows from there and i only bought a 4wd because i live in ny and winter sucks fun but sucks at the same time.

If you drop your 4x4 just take the logo off

If you didn't see it when I posted it earlier, check it out.

never would even think about slamming my 4x4 but woule lower the rear instead of raising the front only because of what I have read on here about the front leveling kits ruining front ends.....you have seen mine....I have 17" wheels, 265/65-R17 and will be going to 265/70-R17 when these wear out. I started out with the maximum drop in the rear with the shackles I got, but decided it looked lower in the rear so I moved it to the other bolt holes which is supposed to be a 1.5" drop instead of a 2".

before leveling:

after leveling:

Look at the difference in distance from the rear tire/wheel well....I had several people ask me (uninformed people) what happened to my truck after i did the max drop with the shackles I got. I started looking at it and even on level ground it looked lower in the back so I went to the 1.5" drop instead.

I get off on covertly switching to 4x4 on a rain slicked road beside some unsuspecting ricer at a stop light...and blowing his doors off... I know my limits....lol
