Default Locking the Rear Diff

Hey there. 2006 Dodge dakota SLT 4.7L V8. I just had a question. My truck has the elctronically changing transfer case for 2WD to 4WD Hi and 4WD Lock. My truck also has an open Rear Differential. When you shift into 4WD it locks the rear diff. Is there any way to lock the rear diff without engaging 4WD? I expect there to be a wire that locks the rear diff and if there is, is there a way to splice into it and wire up a button to engage it? Main reason is for Burnouts.(Duh!) Ya I know it wears tires and all that but who doesnt love a good burnout. Im just stuck with 1 tire fire. Once again just wondering if there is a way to lock the rear diff and keep it in RWD.

Dakota's were never equipped with ARB air locker diffs that I know of to allow you to do that. The poor man's posi in the old days was to weld the axles.Better yet find a salvage yard Dakota with a posi rear end.

Yeah i know. But its electronically controlled. So i figure there is a specific wire which locks it. Just wondering if anyone knows of or if there is way to program the ecu to do it.

Believe that is for rear and not for posi engagement.

No, there is no wire to give you a locked rear diff.

Read the threads below, you can swap one in if you'd like, but it's definitely not as easy as splicing wires together.
There are tons of threads here about differentials, these are only a few.
