well, i have an ebay cold air intake, had one before on my trans-am too. personally i think theyre the best mod for the money, i mean it was 50 for the trans am, and it had like 3 or 4 foot of tubing to a really good place for an intake. the dakota cost 30 bux.

obviously the costlier ones cosmetically look better nad might have a slight difference in performance, i highly doubt ud feel seat of the pants difference. i don't even know if i did have the money if i would buy the expensive ones, maybe?!?! i don't care too much about engine cosmetics.

The heat issue has been discussed many times. Honestly only time will tell. Schedule 40 is rated for 140 degree liquid to run through it, air temps can probably be a little higher. So far my CAI has only seen a 90 degree day, and the Intake Air Temp reached around 105 (According to my Edge programmer). As long as my intake air temp doesn't get above 150, I'm not going to worry, right now it's solid, still looks good, and doing it's job...

What was your intake temp with the stock setup? How is the throttle repsonse compared to stock. Is it pretty loud?
You say your intake has only seen a 90 degree day how about the temps. under the hood especially when you shut the engine off. They are going to be way over 105 degrees. Use a temp gun on the out side of the intake and get real temps.

Also curious where are the intake air sensor fittings and the fitting for the hose that connects to the airbox when using the PVC method?

Heat has never been a problem with mine. The dual filter set-up is over 2 years old. It provided noticeable gains over the stock unit regardless of the heat issue. It simply flow's more air with the shorter tubes and extra filter. Saved money too by home-brewing.

The Air temp sensor is right in the middle of the 90 degree fitting, just drilled a hole and rtv sealant! I removed the hose you are talking about and installed a minifilter on the end of the little pre-bent hose.

Wow. Nice work MOPAR78. Mine is not so pretty, but it seems to work. I did the homebrew route and am using an AMSOIL filter inside the factory box. I may redo it sometime this year, if I get around to it... It does sound much better than stock when I drop the hammer. MPG change? I don't know, as I did this shortly after getting the truck.

Pretty much all the cold air intakes give you 8-10 hp and better throttle response as long as they eliminate the stock tubing to the throttle body.
