Gear swap progress
read all your pages and your persistent i would of gave up and went to a drivetrain specific shop and said here ya go do what you gotta do and pay the bill. But you have to learn somehow goodluck again .
maybe no wobbly pops this time j/k lol
I've been pretty persistent because I haven't been able to find any shops that specifically admits to knowing the ins and outs of these rears. I've pretty much got it under control now with knowledge I've gained here and there but nothing beats trial and error with experience. I've taken this thing apart a half a dozen times so the experience part, I've pretty much got that one down! I was very close last time, just had a pinion bearing too tight it seems. Learn from my mistakes!
Wobbly Pops! love it.

Ran out of daylight ... testing that Ratech solid spacer ... unfortunately, it didn't work out. Ended up using crush sleeve after all. Just could not get that right amount of rotational torque using the Ratech. 0.604 was too tight and 0.606 was too loose - no in between ... the only right way is to use the crush sleeve. So I got the pinion bearing in at about 22 in./lbs. of rotational torque before I ran out of daylight ... so on to tomorrow!

All done ... again. Total rotational torque ended up being 35 in./lbs including carrier and backlash adjusters torqued to 75 ft/lbs. I didn't intentionality set them that way, it's just that, that was the most I'd go and I still have smooth rotational torque. All new bearings so I'm sure when they break in, it'll turn easier.
Ended up setting backlash to 0.0095. For some reason, that's what it set at and I decided "what the heck" and check patterns and they were dead center all around. I like having a wider backlash to help with cooling. We'll see. First road trip ended in 120*F versus 140*F to 150*F I've seen. Time will tell. Didn't drive it but for 10 minutes. So, there's your update!
