Default Shorty vs LT Headers

I am wanting to buy some headers some time soon reasons being that i want more HP more torque and i would like it to be louder (maybe). I have been reading on here and all i can find is things about LT.

I would like some more info on shorty headers. Are they worth the money? Would i see any gains at all? Would i be able to use my factory y pipe and all that stuff that is behind the manifolds?

I am getting the Superchips 3865 for Xmas also if that has anything to do with it

Ok I'm going to give you what I know on this subject but others will weigh in with different opinions. I'll start with the pros of shorties: cheaper, easier to install, keep your cats in stock location (this is important if you have to deal with emissions), more low end torque (others may debate this). Cons: Less HP made, less scavenging (since exhaust gas is traveling a shorter distance due to shorter piping. Pros of LTs: More HP made (some will say its all made on the mid to top end though), better scavenging which means better flow. Cons: They cost more and they require the relocation of the cats (refer to emissions statement earlier). No matter which one you choose you really can't lose in my mind just make sure you get them ceramic coated. And also make sure you ditch that factory Y pipe for a Magnaflow one, it'll actually free up a little more power. And the SC won't do much in the way of headers but the 91 tune is nice

What truck are we talking about here? And I would definitely go with LT's if you don't have to worry about emissions. Check out moesperformance.

I have an 03 HEMI so i do have to deal with emissions. Which i dont like, but it is what it is. and the "y pipe" that you say to replace with a magnaflow one, is that after the cats right?

Yes the Y pipe is after the cats. It's what the cats converge into in order to make your exhaust a single pipe. If you look at a stock one compared to the magnaflow one you'll see how restricted the stock one is

How much does the Magnaflow y pipe run? $$ wise. And how do i nstall it? weld? bolt in? sory, im kinda new to this stuff

What does the replacement Magnaflow y-pipe look like? i was looking online and they all look diffrent... could someone show me which one they bought? and where from? thanks!

Summit Racing should have the one you want. It's $27 and I would weld it in since it would be a permanent replacement for me. The only reason I don't own one right now is because I'm waiting to do it at the same time as my exhaust so that the guy can weld it in while he's already down there for the exhaust.

Oh. I see. I am looking at them now, should i get the single in, dual out? or dual in single out? and do you happen to know what pipe diameter?
