Good Truck for New Driver?
Trust me, there is no one driver's test that can prepare you for the real world. I've seen friends of mine that I took to get their license score the minimum pass score, and they are some of the safest drivers out there. Inversely, I've seen some people ace their tests and they drive so poorly that I wont ride with them. Being a good driver takes time.
I too thought I was the beesneez when I started driving, but let me tell ya, I got knocked down a level 2 days before I turned 16. I managed to wrap a 1997 Chevy 1500 around a tree at 80MPH. I walked away from that wreck with a small cut on my ear and a little scratch on my hand.
Look, I'm not bashing you, but I know how you feel and I also know how you are going to feel on the first royal **** up you have.
Oh, BTW, I scored a 95 On my test. Down here, the tests don't prepare you for real world driving scenarios. I would be willing to bet that it's the same damn instance up there.
I tell ya what, resurrect this thread in about 5 years and tell us all then that you are still the best driver out there. I guarantee you wont be able to truthfully say that.

I don't know, I feel like I have a HUGE weight (not quite sure what to call it) riding on my back. My grandfather, his grandfather, my dad and my step dad have never been in an accident. I'm trying to follow their foot steps and succeed in driving and being a safe cautious driver. I'm not your ordinary dumb *** teenager that plans on driving like a lunatic.
I think I'm one of the best teenager driver's because I and a lot of people I drive with consider me one of the best teenage driver's they've taught, driven with etc. I learn fast and catch on fast, I'm sure I could be a Rally Driver or Auto Cross driver etc if I had the right tools to work with; but so could everyone right? Wrong.
I'm sorry but I believe the fact is I am an above average driver and that's how I'm going to think of my driving skills. You all think the driving classes and tests in United States are the same as they are here, but the fact is Saskatchewan has one of the best driving courses and drivers education program available to new drivers, it's a proven fact.
I know when you drive by yourself for the first time, and the rest of your life is much different then having someone in the car, I understand that. I understand that people make mistakes and you might have to pay for it, or the other way around. I also understand most new drivers are impatient, they speed, break the law, etc; but I'm not like that.

I don't think any of this was meant to be a personal attack on you so much as it was for teen drivers as a whole. If I was a few years younger I would start investing in a race car. I really would like to be doing that now and unless your rich it takes time to buid one.
So get to it!! And now you will have a badass Ram to pull it with.
Good day

My original plan was to build a Rally car and take it to Saskatoon, Calgary and Edmonton to get involved with Auto Cross racing and Rallying. Just a cheap car to start out with that would let me learn in and bruise up that has a large variety of cheap parts, later on building a faster car that can actually compete. I've thought about it, but Canada doesn't have much Rally Racing and to get good at it you have to live somewhere where it happens a lot, then you have options to take your career further in life.
I think you should get a QC hemi. You don't need a Cummin's even though they are awesome, it's just overkill. As for driving skills I'm 16 and feel I am a good driver (I know I'm gonna get s*** for that). I slide around all the time (before my new tires) and have no problem at all correcting slides and so on. I speed occasionally and have no problem seeing what's ahead. I don't speed like a maniac just about 5 over. If you have a police cadet program in your area join in. I have learned so much when it comes to high speed driving and braking from the officer's here I could handle a crown vic easy. Just the other day I was goin down the road doing 40 in a 30 and a little kid ran out in the street after a ball, I saw the kid the second her shoes hit the street and pulled off a perfect threshold brake. I stopped in the road and motioned for her to go ahead and grab it, no sooner did she head back onto the street did another teenage kid doin about 50 swerved around me and plowed on forward acting like he never even saw the little girl and was within a foot and a half to two feet away from killing her. I know I'm gonna take crap for this, if you feel you have to talk s*** expect some back. I feel I am a more than capable driver and could care less what some of the older members think of me for this. My mom claims she is a better driver and has been driving for 30 years but yet I have showed her up on numerous occasions.

So diesel is definitely not worth buying for what I'm doing? I'm currently looking at this, http://saskatoon.kijiji.ca/c-cars-ve...AdIdZ157742597
It has a blown block, but my father's an autobody technician so he can help me replace the engine. Would it be worth it if I could get the truck for around $4000.00?

No offense man, but an auto body technician is not the same as a mechanic. They are two separate areas.
What experience does your father have with actual engine or drivetrain work?
Thats first. Second of all, if they didn't treat the truck right and abused it somehow that the engine blew, what else did they treat like crap that you won't notice until after you've had it a few days, a few weeks, or a few months?

I thought the same thing... Now that I've got 4-5 years under my belt, my driving record actually reflects that assertion..

My rule of thumb when buying a vehicle......Unless it is a secondary/project vehicle buy it with everything working.....
Consider why the engine may be blown.....Probably lack of care from a poor owner. You may very well end up spending the same amount of money thinking you have saved. But you do in fact end up spending the same or more and could have saved yourself the time and trouble.
